Washington Nationals History
2022:
2nd in NL East (103-51)
An up and coming young pitching staff headed by Alex Manoah combined with stalwarts Jose Abreu, Jean Segura & Kolton Wong led
back to the playoffs after a long absence. However they were bounced in the wild card round by a hot
club. They have a strong foundation for their new GM Dave to build as Cris heads to KC.
2021:
3rd in NL East (66-96)
In the second year under Cris, the Nats narrowly missed 100 losses, but still showed significant improvement over their 9 win season in 2020. A young pitching staff headed by top prospects Casey Mize & Alex Manoah with Jose Abreu and Kolton Wong provided movement in a positive direction during the second year of the rebuild.
2020:
9th in East Division (9-51)
In his first season back in FGM, ldsjayhawk, got a sense that the team he took over needs a lot of help in a lot of areas. With a lineup featuring Aaron Hicks and Kolten Wong, the
does have some assets. Past history has shown the team is in good hands.
2019:
3rd in NL East (60-102)
The
took a step back during the 2019 campaign. Dropping to 3rd in the standings, although technically tied with the
for 2nd in the division, the
were hurt by a GM that lost interest midway through the season and a variety of players underperforming. The
hope to reboot with a GM replacement in 2020.
2018:
2nd in NL East (86-76)
LeppardKev
2017:
5th in NL East (28-134)
2016:
5th in NL East (11-146)
Rommel vegeta100
2015:
4th in NL East (37-53)
Dave
2014:
4th in NL East (50-91)
Dave
2013:
NL East Champs (93-69)
After three years at the helm, Jake decided to go out on top. The 2012 season was a brilliant campaign, but his activity at Nats Park waned in 2013. This led to the Nationals being one of the worst teams in April. Ownership sought out a new GM and Eric appeared to be the right man for the job focused on sustainable success.
2012:
NL East Champs (93-69)
Washington had 36 more wins in 2012 than they had in 2011 as the most improved team. Jake won the GM of the Year award as the Nationals won the NL East, beat the Cardinals in the NL East, and fell just short of making it to the World Series. Names like Adam Dunn, Buster Posey, and Jose Bautista were all involved in this winning effort.
2011:
5th in NL East (57-105)
At one point, the Nats had one of the best farm systems in the bigs. At the end of the season, they had Jose Bautista and Alex Rodriguez. The future is uncertain for a franchise that has little cap room and little depth. All that we know is that they don't want to repeat 2011.
2010:
3rd in NL East (74-88)
Thomas Avellino took over the helm in January, but was inactive after taking office and was let go two months later. Original Angels GM, Jake Douglas, decided to take on the challenge of the Nationals front office later that day. Jake picked up a few wins here and there and acquired Zack Greinke (who was with the Royals, Phillies, and Angels previously that season) for an excellent 1-2 SP punch with Strasburg. Unfortunately, like the real-life Nats, Strasburg went down with Tommy John surgery that summer and crushed some hopes of this franchise. Either way, the team finished with a brighter future.
2009:
4th in NL East (71-91)
The Nats did better than expected as compared to the real life Nationals who were almost the worst team ever. Of course, when you take out the first three months of the season, that is what happens. The real life Nationals played like a losing club in the 2nd half, but not a historically losing club. GM Scott Johnson did little to improve the team headed into 2010.

Take two to tango, though. Most owners with adequate or surplus SP aren't interested in prospects as they're trying to win now.

Also agreed. Top quality pitching probably means not much depth. A few injuries can challenge you. Pitching other than top end pitching has been devalued in fantasy. Everyone wants the stud.

I here to tell you that ALL major league pitching is good pitching. A great hitter beats a terrible pitcher just 3 out of 10 times. Which means the worst pitchers > the greatest hitters.

Greg Maddux had the best outlook. He viewed himself as tye dealer/house and you had to beat him. Just like in the casino, the house nearly always wins.

The problem with the minors is not the system as a whole, it is some Farm Systems are more 'elite' at being able to produce talent than others. If you look across MLB teams you can pretty easily tell the great systems from the weaker systems and talent development
Yesterday

With regard to pitching in the Minors...there is method to the madness. It is all about what you make of it tho. I agree that it can seem certain type arms in the minors are a dime a dozen
Yesterday

Mr Braves you are my guy. There isnt anything wrong with minor league studs or flops. I get it in REAL baseball.

This is fantasy baseball. We dont generate revenue selling prospects and merchandising. Our top farms dont get a write up in Sports Illustrated.
