Title: Vancouver Canucks IR Move
Post by: WestCoastExpress on October 16, 2019, 07:17:12 PM
Put onto the LTIR:
C/LW Alex Galchenyuk, $3.9m (2021-2022)

Move from LTIR to Active Roster:
X-C Erik Haula, LTIR $1m (2020-2021), $m this year

Done on Fantrax

I don't think Galchenyuk is eligible for the LTIR at this point. He was placed on the IR on wednesday the 9th and has only missed 3 games so far. Fantrax listed his expected return as today (10-16-19). So he doesn't seem to meet the expected out 10 games or 24 days that would be required for him to be eligible for the LTIR.

Longterm Injured Reserve
Each team will have one Longterm IR slot.  Players on LTIR do not count against the cap.  LTIR is intended for players who are expected be out for an extended period of time: at least 10 games or 24 days.  Once a player on LTIR is healthy and back to NHL action they may remain on LTIR until the end of the current season, at which point all LTIR players who are healthy will be added back to their teams 30 man roster.

He's not practicing or hasn't taken the ice since the injury, so I very much highly doubt he's playing tonight (if they even have a game).

I figured it was a day-to-day thing originally but there hasn't been any news on him skating since then.

That would make him eligible for your IR slot. To get on the LTIR slot there needs to be a report that he will be out multiple weeks and miss the required 10 games or 24 days.

Oh ok, I thought we just had to leave the player on the LTIR for that long (ie. Couldn’t activate him after say 20 days, he’d have to be there for at least 24 days and we couldn’t use him)

Situations like these are always tough to determine LTIR eligibility.  I see that he's missed 4 at this point with no clear outlook going forward.  If you get to 7 missed games with no new news, and still not practicing, you can safely bet that he'll miss 10 games and I would allow the LTIR move.

Cool cool, no worries. Thanks for moving Haula back for me, I wasn't able to.

Gonna close out this thread - just re-post once he hits that 7 missed game mark and if there's no other news saying he'll be back before 10, then you'll be good.
