Franchise GM: Invalid Transactions / Re: Contract Extensions
« on: July 22, 2010, 03:45:44 PM »
I wasn't sure of the rules for extensions and now that Colby has clarified them for me a little I have decided to wait for the offseason to extend the contracts of these players.  Sorry for the confusion I just wasn't sure how to do the extensions.

I would like to extend the contracts of the following players:

Roy Halladay-highest ranking was 3rd which is 18.5m.  I would like a 3yr deal at 18.5m per year
Tim Lincecum- highest ranking was 5th which is 18m.  I would like a 4yr deal at 18m per year
Brian Wilson - highest ranking is 32 which is 2.5m  I would like a 2yr deal at 2.5m per year
Fred Lewis - highest ranking is 100 which is 1.5m.  I would like a 2yr deal at 1.5m per year

Thank you.

Yanks receive
P Bumgarner, Madison, $0.5m (P-n/a)
C Mauer, Joe, $10m (2013)
X-C Mauer, Joe, Cash from MIN, $-7m in 2010
4-15 SF
5-15 SF

for

Giants get
P Lincecum, Tim, $0.5m (P-2010)
MI Janish, Paul, $0.5m (2010)
1-10 NYY (from CHC from KC)

The yanks get a young cheap pitcher in bumgarner.  A catcher in Mauer who is locked up for a good price. The yanks are sad to part ways with lincecum, but to bring a catcher like mauer and a young pitcher like bumgarner it had to be done.

I agree to this deal to bring Lincecum back home to SF.  Mauer is a great player and I gave up a lot to get him but I have injury concerns.  Bumgarner has started awesome but you never know.  I am happy to regain a first round pick that I lost in the Wainwright deal.  I feel now that I have one of the best pitching staffs with Lincecum, Halladay, Wainwright, Cahill, and Webb when he comes back healthy.  It was a pleasure doing business with you Corey!

Franchise GM: Completed Transactions / Giants - DBacks Trade
« on: July 12, 2010, 11:33:15 PM »
The Giants and Dbacks have reached a deal.

Giants receive:

OF Griffey Jr., Ken, $0.5m (2010)
SP Halladay, Roy, $13.5m (2010)
C Hernandez, Ramon, $3.5m (2010)

DBacks receive:

SP Francis, Jeff, $3.5m (2010)
OF Cuddyer, Michael, $7.5m (2010)
C Molina, Benji, $5.5m (2010)
OF Cust, Jack, $2m (2010) - I will pay 1 mil salary

I did this deal to acquire Halladay.  It is hard for me to pass up one of the best pitchers in baseball.  Griffey is a throw in to even out salary.  I am rebuilding my team and I am starting with my pitching staff.  I feel this gives me one of the best pitching staffs now in the league.  I feel I can replace my offensive guys.

DBacks to confirm.

Franchise GM: Completed Transactions / Giants - DBacks Trade
« on: June 30, 2010, 01:13:31 PM »
Here is the deal between myself and Omar of the DBacks:

Giants receive:

OF Winn, Randy, $1m (2011)
OF Byrnes, Eric, $10m (2010)
SP Webb, Brandon, $7.5m (2013)

for

OF Bruce, Jay, $0.5m (P-2011)
SP Zito, Barry, $18m (2013)

Jay Bruce was a big price to pay to get rid of Zito's contract.  I took Winn and Byrnes strickly to match salary.  It will give me the cap room I need to keep Mauer under the salary cap for next year.  Webb is a good pitcher if he can return from injury back to form.  I am confident Webb will.  Even if he misses this year he is under contract for a few more years at a reasonable rate.  Zito's contract was a big obstacle for me and I had to deal with Bruce for the breathing room.  Good deal for both teams as Zito is still a serviceable pitcher and Bruce is a good outfielder.  I would rather have Mauer and Webb then Bruce and Zito is all it came down to for me.

  • dbreer23: Take two to tango, though. Most owners with adequate or surplus SP aren't interested in prospects as they're trying to win now.

  • Daddy: Also agreed. Top quality pitching probably means not much depth. A few injuries can challenge you. Pitching other than top end pitching has been devalued in fantasy. Everyone wants the stud.

  • Daddy: I here to tell you that ALL major league pitching is good pitching. A great hitter beats a terrible pitcher just 3 out of 10 times. Which means the worst pitchers > the greatest hitters.

  • Braves155: The problem with the minors is not the system as a whole, it is some Farm Systems are more 'elite' at being able to produce talent than others. If you look across MLB teams you can pretty easily tell the great systems from the weaker systems and talent development

  • Braves155: With regard to pitching in the Minors...there is  method to the madness. It is all about what you make of it tho. I agree that it can seem certain type arms in the minors are a dime a dozen
