Title: Potential FYPD Problems
Post by: BHows on June 04, 2015, 04:05:28 PM
Baseball America has released it's Top 500 for the upcoming FYPD: http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft-preview/.  There are a number of notable players on this list that are currently on FGM rosters thus ineligle for our FYPD later in the fall.
In order to avoid confusion I would like to ask all GMs to please list your rostered players that are on this BA compilation. I know we probably won't get all of them. We have a few new GMs that weren't here when we drafted unsigned players; the last year for that was 2012 so hopefully this will be the last year we have to do this.
Please look over your rosters and list any affected players below.
Thanks,
Rick and Ernie

I think this is ridiculous.  I am not new as I have ran the Angels since 2013, but to have 2 of the top 4 players not available for this years draft is just crazy.  I think when the decision was made to change the draft rules, those players should have been removed and the supplemented with future picks or something.  It is hard enough to rebuild a team in this league when pitching is minimalized and some of the top hitters from future drafted were vultured years ago.

In fact, I think that this should be addressed this year.  Those players should be removed from the teams that have then and replaced with supplemental picks in this years draft.  TWO out of the top FOUR potential picks is ridiculous.

The players should not be removed period. I have 0 of them, but older FGM (original) rules allowed a team to draft unsigned players and roster them. That team takes the chance of sitting on player for numerous years.

Our former Commissioner addressed this issue a few years ago.  In a post dated July 31, 2013, he states:

"Just so that everyone is clear any player that is already owned by a franchise and was drafted as an unsigned player will continue to be owned by this team. These players will be grandfathered in to the old rules so that these teams will continue to own their rights. Drafting of unsigned players would be eliminated for any future drafts.

It is unfortunate that two of the top players are already gone, but we can't suddenly reverse course and take away players ex post facto.

:SF: does not have any such players

It's all good.  It will just make winning this league in a few years that much sweeter.
