curious about this.

Just have a question about this? Why is it a rule? How does it help the league?

It is a rule to prevent minor stashing (in the last year of their contract) and also give a break to GMs who sign a player (ex. Radulov) who leaves when they have more than 1 year left on their contract by getting 50% off instead of 66%.

It helps the league by GMs being responsible for the contracts they have on their team. Some cases may be unforeseen like Lubo but many we know will come.

OIC I thought we could send down anybody who was on last year of a contract if we have the cap space.

:iatp: I thought that's what we agreed on I really don't like this new rule we don't control what players do. It wouldn't be stashing the minors that's y we have the last year rule and reducing minor cap, this makes it harder for gms to run there team especially if a new gm takes over a team and needs to turn the team around

This isn't a new rule it has been here since April, 2011. It is simply to make GMs accountable for their contracts and not simply say hey, "Let's sign Radulov to a $1m - 1 year contract then send him down to the minors. I could then call him up as a IR replacement if he comes back to the NHL and if not whatever, I burnt a minor spot, oh well." And the rule is only for players that move to a different league or retire as we have to be aware of age/possible movement/etc.

Yes i understand that but in case say vizhnosky with intent for him to play in nhl but if he doesnt i think the gm should be able to adjust his team ie minors if he has room just like a game of chess.  i think this rule might hurt the league or individuals more then help just my thoughts on this
