I actually have two questions in the Franchise GM.
1) I am going to have the 1st pick in the MLB entry level draft. Say I pick Baseball America's top guy and he has a signing bonus of $7M. When does he come on my books? Do I have to room in June? at the end of the season for next year?
2) Say I am going to release Alfonso Soriano but I am going to wait until the 75%/50%/25%+ after the trading deadline....when does the 75% get applied? to this season's salary? does it start next year? If I am going to release him does the 90%/60%/30% save me more money right now? I am unsure about these after reading the rules....
1) The player goes on your books right away just as it happens in MLB.
2) The 75% is applied to the entire first year of when a player is dropped after the deadline. The situations for dropping Soriano before and after the deadline this year...
OF Soriano, Alfonso, $17m (2014)
Before: $15.5m, $10m, $5m, $5m, $5m hits from 2010 to 2014
After: $13m, $9m, $4m, $4m, $4m
You would save a total of $7.5m over 5 years if you waited a few months, but you would have to sit with that huge liability on your hands the entire time. Perhaps you could trade him on the cheap?

Thanks for the quick reply. I will put this conversation in one of the posts.
1) In real life, teams have the players rights for up to a year until they are possible entered into the next year's draft.
2) When I put Soriano out there everyone wanted me to eat a huge portion of his contract anyway. He is 36, bum knees, and is 17M a year until 2014. What I appreciate about this league is gaining a new appreciation from this end of things. What an atrocious contract.
Great job on transitioning the new server.....
Response - Once the real life team signs the player then the contract hits the books in MLB. This is how we are taking care of it. We set provisions in case the player does not actually sign in real life.
Soriano It may suit you well to free up the space and a few million earlier in the season and drop him. Keep in mind there is a rule saying that you can't pick him up with a month of dropping him.
