With the Astros GM leaving and not being able to work out a deal with him, I was able to work out a deal with the Rays.
We (Miami) are trading a power bat for a power pitcher who is locked up for several good years at a cheap price. With Josh Johnson and Price we have a terrifice 1-2 punch to help compete in the NL east with the Phillies. In a short series, we have a great chance of taking anyone. We are also clearing $15 million off the payroll to make a run at a few veteran free agents who can bring a championship attitude to our young club. With entering our new stadium next year, we are looking at returning to the post season and adding to our World Series hardware.

Let's see, I guess I am middle of the road here being 33 years old. I am married and father of soon to be 2 teenage daughters. I live in Illinois in a super small town compared to some of you with a population of under 9000 people (If you think that is small, when I was in high school I lived in a nearby town of 100 people). Went to college for almost 5 years but did not finish, some of that was only part time. Family comes first and that is the reason I did not finish. I manage a restaurant now. I think when I grow up that I would like to give farming a try. Love the country, not a fan of big cities other than the four lane roads which feels like I am driving for Nascar. I am a huge Cardinals and Fighting Illini fan. I enjoy most sports but baseball and college football are my favorite. I am also not a fan of East coast teams ie.. Jets, Patriots, Red Sox, Yankees, Duke and North Carolina basketball (although I do like Coach K, he is from Illinois) to name a few. I also root for any team that plays against the U of Michigan, unless Michigan makes it to a bowl game then I want them to represent the Big 10 well. I have been a Marlins fan since their creation and even skipped school to watch the expansion draft back in '92. I hoping for their sake the new stadium brings in some more fans, otherwise I may talk to the owner and try to move them here where I would get about 9000 to show up for a game.

EXISTING RULES: 1. All players on 40 man roster accrue service time. 2. Service time in accrued in units of years, not days. 3. Unlimited option years. Players can be on 40 man roster and in the minors for as many years as he is under control by the organization. 4. Player transactions for promotions and demotions between 25 man roster and 40 man roster not tracked by AFB.
PROPOSED RULES: 1. All players on 25 man roster accrue service time. 2. Service time is accrued in units of days. 3. Unchanged. 4. All organizations must report any player promotion or demotion between the 25 man roster and the 40 man roster. This will allow for the Commissioner’s Office to track service time.
REASON: This is more in line with MLB rules. This wasn’t done previously because I had no way of tracking service time for the MLB players for the 2011 season, so I had to use 1 full service year for anybody on the 40 man roster. Now that we control everything, it is easier for me to track service time the way it was meant to be tracked.
This will require minimally more work.
Since I’m considering this to be a minor rule change and it will not affect anything that has been done so far, I will not require a full league vote. However, I will listen to any feedback you guys may have on this.
I like the idea too. I have a question about #3 just for clarification. If the player is with the organization in real life then we are able to keep that player for as long as we like if we have not used up their service time on our 25 man roster making them a free agent?

The reason I made this trade is due to the fact that I due not believe that Hanley is the future of the Marlin franchise. He has the talent but I dont believe the work ethic I am looking for. Ricky Nolasco in my opinion is not worth the 9-12 million he will be making over the next 2 yrs. Although he is good, I think I can pick up another arm at a better price. I am able to take quite a bit of money off my payroll with this trade and put it to better use in other areas. The opportunity to get Bourn at least for a year and adding the speed and potental of Deshields along with the #1 pick was too good to pass on.
I also believe this will help out the Astros with the Major League talent they will be acquiring. This does add a quality arm to their staff and a dangerous bat to their line up.
