Panthers get Giroux
« on: November 24, 2014, 06:09:23 PM »
The Flyers and Panthers have agreed on the following deal....

Flyers receive:
C Sam Reinhart, $m (P-n/a)
C Aleksander Barkov, $0.2m (P-15/16)
RW Nikolaj Ehlers, $m (P-n/a)
D Seth Jones, $0.2m (P-15/16)
G Malcolm Subban, $m (P-n/a)

Panthers receive:
RW Claude Giroux, $7m (2018-2019)
G Robin Lehner, $0.2m (P-15/16)
D Dmitry Kulikov, $3.4m (2014-2015)
D Andrew MacDonald, $1.6m (2014-2015)
Flyers pay full salary for Giroux, Kulikov, and MacDonald for 2014-2015

It was extremely hard for the Flyers to deal Giroux.  He was the heart of our team.  I feel we got a disgusting amount of young talent for him though.  Its a big gamble that all these kids will develop but it was one we couldn't say no to. Philly is committed to a quick rebuild and with these players, the young guys I already traded for, and 8 first round picks for the next draft we feel we are on the road to building a great team.  The Flyers wish G well and we will probably try to get him back in the offseason LOL!

Thanks Capn!  Its always a pleasure to negotiate with you!  Good luck!  :toth:

Papps taking a risk, but you have to think at minimum 2 or 3 of these guys pan out which makes it worth the risk.  All of these young guys have extremely high ceilings.  Good deal for both teams.

:FLO: confirms the trade above.

My team has done a hell of a lot better than I thought it would so far, hence why I've sold young talent to get the likes of D.Sedin, B.Schenn, and now Giroux.
Can also thank the NYI kids Nelson and Strome for some early success too.

My team looks like it will be able to be fairly competitive this year, and with a good FA signing or two in the summer with extra cap space that I'll have, I should be able to really be in the mix (hopefully) next year.

Sucks balls losing these 5 top quality young players, but Giroux is a point a game player or more with lots on the powerplay so he's got great value.
In 2-3 years those 4 skaters out-point Giroux by a ton, but that's still 2-3 years from now.

Philly's moves remind me of me about a year and a half ago, selling all my NHL talent to get good young players and draft picks.
My team's done pretty well as a result in far less time than I imagined when I made all those moves, so Philly won't be out of it for long!

ROB...BTW:
For easiness, that's $12m even in cash to Florida this year.
Also, Giroux is a C, not a RW.
Thanks!

If trade passes, send to the minors:
D Derrick Pouliot, $0.2m (P-n/a)
RW Ty Rattie, $0.2m (P-n/a)
RW Dmitrij Jaskin, $0.2m (P-n/a)

  • dbreer23: Take two to tango, though. Most owners with adequate or surplus SP aren't interested in prospects as they're trying to win now.

  • Daddy: Agreed. But most does not equal all.

  • Braves155: My issue in LIVE currently is having Strider/Alcantara/Giolito all on the long shelf, so I am more retooling than rebuilding
    Yesterday at 02:46:48 PM
  • Daddy: Also agreed. Top quality pitching probably means not much depth. A few injuries can challenge you. Pitching other than top end pitching has been devalued in fantasy. Everyone wants the stud.

  • Daddy: I here to tell you that ALL major league pitching is good pitching. A great hitter beats a terrible pitcher just 3 out of 10 times. Which means the worst pitchers > the greatest hitters.

  • Braves155: The problem with the minors is not the system as a whole, it is some Farm Systems are more 'elite' at being able to produce talent than others. If you look across MLB teams you can pretty easily tell the great systems from the weaker systems and talent development

  • Braves155: With regard to pitching in the Minors...there is  method to the madness. It is all about what you make of it tho. I agree that it can seem certain type arms in the minors are a dime a dozen
