It's not too muddy....but this is a discussion thread so there has been some of that.

Quote
What PPG stated was
* teams designate 2 players annually in August (contract roll-over period)
* qualifies by (A) being drafted by the FNHL team or (B) plays for same NHL team as FNHL team
* 25% discount
* notation on player's contract TBD
* discount only valid while player plays for the team (a trade void the discount)

*The first point has been clarified to mean that there can only be a maximum of 2 HTD contracts on your roster at any given time.

*For simplicity I think that the nomination should happen sometime between when the player is drafted and signing his initial EL contract. These HTD contracts would have a built-in No Trade Clause. (PPG and I talked about this at length and he at least seemed to be mulling it over.) This would allow us to not worry about tracking, trading, and voiding discounts.

*Contracts could look like this: C - Connor McDavid (2015: 1/1 - 0 Games) :PHO:

All McDavid's subsequent contracts would be discounted by 25% as long as he played for Arizona. Arizona would not be able to trade him however so would have to let him walk to free-agency at an extension period or buy him out in order to get rid of him. Hard to imagine wanting to move McDavid, but consider this: C - Alexei Yashin , $2.2m (1992-1995-EL) :OTT:

There could be an allowance for new GM's to be able to void these contracts so they are not handcuffed but otherwise it is easy enough to buy them out for existing GM's. That's my vision anyway. Just a touch simpler than the way it was initially presented and very easy to manage.

This should only go into effect for 2016-17.

I like this idea. It's a little twist for FNHL and a play on the theme of "Franchise".

I think you should be able to trade your home town players, if its a move to become cap complient. Any one you sign off your minor league team could end up costing your competitive edge. Kind of a deterrent to "develope" players. IMO this change would answer the question of why the guy with no minor team dosent like draft picks.

No trading of Hometown discounted player because they usually also get a No Trade or No Movement Clause since the player has given their hometown team a signing discount.

Homeown Discounts will kick in August 8, 2016 or the 1st day after we roll contracts to 2016-17. :judge:

Not urgent, but I would like to clarify exactly who will be eligible for a hometown discount starting next August.  I will use specific examples from the Pens roster:

1) Sidney Crosby, $5.6m (2012-2016) - I assume he would be eligible for the FNHL Pens since he plays for the NHL Pens.  But I don't know if the FNHL Pens actually drafted him, but I'm not sure if that criteria must be met as well.  Would he be eligible?

2) Marc-Andre Fleury, $9.1m (2014-2019) - Ditto Crosby above ... however, he is under contract through 2019.  Can his contract be re-negotiated to take advantage of the hometown discount, or are we saying you can only do this when their contracts are up for renewal?

3) Robert Bortuzzo, $1.7m (2015-2018) - The FNHL Pens drafted him, but he now plays for the NHL Blues.  Would he be eligible?  I realize his salary is only $1.7M and probably not worth it, but just using him as an example of someone previously drafted by an FNHL team that a) there is no record on the team page that the FNHL team drafted him and b) he no longer plays for the same NHL team.

Thanks in advance, PPG

I am with McCrow on this.  Things are still pretty muddy.  Would like to know exactly what is going into effect next year/season.  Would make some differences on trades I pursue throughout the season.

I have another question to add to this.

If I didnt draft, but traded for a prospect before he made the jump to the pro roster would they count for the hometown discount?
