Blue Jackets announce a deal with San Jose.
Sharks looking to clear cap to make a BO.
BJs get value for David Savard who has a pricey extension we could afford but were looking around for a better way to spend 5.7m. We found it.
TO CBJ Cap hit 3.4
Austin Madaisky, $0.3m (2014-2016)
Matthew Carle, $3.1m (2014-2017)
Round 3 - 2015 (from :SJ:; via :CLS:; originally :BOS-NHL:) cost of buying cap space
TO SJ Cap hit 0.3m
David Savard, $0.3m (2012-2015-EL) 14-15=#21 or 13-14=#95 cost $5.7m
G - Anthony Brodeur (2013: 7/208 - 0 Games)
Cap Savings $3.1m
One of the easier deals to make. Thx BB!
:SJ: to confirm.

:SJ: Sharks confirm this trade with Columbus.

We want to clear cap space to complete a buy out of Franzen who's uncertainty makes his 4.0m cap hit and remaining 3yrs of this contract a risk we don't want to carry into 2015-16. Clearing his cap also allows us more freedom to make future moves.
Savard is a high ceiling D with a tiny cap now that allows us to make the Franzen BO. His extension is higher than we like but cost benefit wise this works for us in the short term.
Carle has a bigger salary than he's worth and Austin Madaisky was an FA spec we signed just sitting around on our roster not doing much. We have no problem moving them.
Anthony Brodeur is a project we'll gladly add to our Goalie spec stable.
Thanks PPG

PPG can you sign Savard to his extension. Saves me a move.

:SJ: Sharks will be looking at a future blueline that consists of:
Nick Leddy 24yo, 4.6m 3yrs
Michael Del Zotto 24yo, 4.7m 3yrs
David Savard 24yo, 5.7m 4yrs
Very happy with the rebuilding efforts in San Jose!

I will give the Edge here to San Jose for creating cap to generate even more cap in time for Free Agency.
In terms of players and talent exchanged, San Jose gets the Edge again with David Savard being an excellent young defenseman and the best player traded.

Done. Savard has been extended by :CLS: :toast:

Not bad for a young D PPG mightve dropped. Haha Moderate return for a good scoring D with a big cap hit.
