I meant to post in the previous thread discussing the proposal of the new active lineup that, if I remember right, reduced the hitters to 9 (position players plus 1 DH) while having pitchers at 12 (5SP and 7RP)

I didn’t vote in that thread because I had some concerns about imbalance of hitter and pitcher spots and wasn’t sure. Somebody in that thread made a good point and got me thinking and I looked into it further and I’m satisfied it’s a good idea.

Last year there was 605 hitter and 730 pitchers who accrued points (positive or negative) which makes sense as teams use more pitchers than hitters as pitchers seem to be more injury prone, volatile year to year (especially bullpen) etc.

So based on what’s actually available for our teams in the way of points accruing players, the most even balance is 10 hitters to 12 pitchers. That said, 9 is close and a nice clean baseball number.

I’d be happy going to the lineup proposed before as a way of ensuring some teams are able to fill their hitting slots providing the change takes place starting in 2020 of course to give people time to adjust.

I agree with Shane.  I also believe after someone proposed a corner out field slot that the active OF would look like this:
LF/RF
CF
LF/RF

As whoever stated, left and right are fairly interchangeable while center is not.  This allows some flexibility for teams as players move from corner infield spots over all the time.

As a further improvement to the idea of a new outfield alignment I would propose it to look like this

OF
CF
OF

This is for 2 reasons
1. It’s not unreasonable to be able to play a CF in a corner if you have 2 like in real life.

2. I’ve notice a somewhat common thing, especially if a player was MiLB the previous season is if they get spread between all 3 outfield positions or were injured the previous year then they end up being eligible only as OF to start the season. It would be silly to then only be able to play your OF as a DH until they get enough time to qualify for a specific outfield position.

The biggest part of this in my opinion is reducing scoring slots, so more teams can actually field a full roster.

I agree Ryan.  It decreases the gaps to which makes quality over quantity more important as well, but the teams still have an opportunity as well.
