Hurricanes Outlook 2016-17: New Owner In Town
« on: December 27, 2016, 01:28:44 PM »
I thought the Hurricanes would have more wins by now but with all the injuries it's been tough. I think once I get everyone back I'll win a few games but it's going to take quite a turnaround not to finish in the bottom 2.

Just out of curiosity why haven't we adopted the same draft lottery the NHL has? Seems like it would be easy by just placing all the non playoff teams in the same order of finish as the corresponding NHL team and then set the new order according to how the lotto unfolds.

Not that there is anybody worth tanking for this year but it would prevent anyone from doing it if there was another McDavid or Crosby in the future. The system is fine the way it is though.

The Hurricanes play to wwin every week despite the record.

Carolina is in the midst of a long term rebuilding project. We've chosen to jettison some depth in favor of bringing in some high upside prospects and have suffered in the standings as a result. The next phase of plan will involve bringing in some depth veterans in the off season through free agency or trades to supplement the group of MILR's expected to make the jump next year to the big club. I can't see this team being crazy busy in free agency despite the projected 17 million in cap room we should have but anything is possible. In my mind the only significant players we've lost since new ownership took over are Pageau, Rieder, Marleau, Jarnkrok and Smith. With the additions that have been made it's pretty much a wash at the NHL level but the minor league team is now stocked with one of the best group of specs in the league. Carolina will also have two top ten first round picks in next years draft to further strengthen that group. I'm counting on these guys coming through for me in the next couple of years. Carolina's future is going to depend on them.

Subtractions:
Anton Lander, $0.3m (2015-2017)
Jean-Gabriel Pageau, $0.3m (2014-2017-EL)
Calle Jarnkrok, $0.4m (2015-2017)
Peter Holland, $1.5m (2015-2018)
Riley Sheahan, $1.5m (2015-2018)
Gabriel Bourque, $0.3m (2015-2017)
Johan Franzen, $3.4m (2015-2018)
Patrick Marleau, $7.3m (2014-2018)
Adam Cracknell, $0.2m (2015-2017)
Dennis Everberg, $0.2m (2015-2017)
Tobias Rieder, $1.5m (2015-2018)
Trevor Van Riemsdyk, $0.2m (2015-2017)

Busy Bee, looks like you flipped 70% of your roster. Amazing effort!

Also Bob looks like a real anchor. Schneider could learn a thing or two from watching that human puck vacuum. Does that guy ever lose or tie?

Bob is our team MVP. We'd probably only have half as many wins without him!

Like any good owner, you have to build toward your plan.

If it means tearing down the entire roster so be it.
You just don't know if you have a winner on your hands until you try to build it your way!

Great job in Carolina. BTW, Gusev might be a diamond in the rough if he comes over from the K.

I require from my teams, proper levels of anger, belligerence and some good ol' fashion piss 'n' vinegar.

  • dbreer23: Take two to tango, though. Most owners with adequate or surplus SP aren't interested in prospects as they're trying to win now.

  • Daddy: Also agreed. Top quality pitching probably means not much depth. A few injuries can challenge you. Pitching other than top end pitching has been devalued in fantasy. Everyone wants the stud.
