The contract of Sergio Romo, however, is subject to the following rule:

"3) New salary may be no less than 70% of previous salary.  Therefore, a player with market value of $2.5m, current one-year deal of $5m, can have an extension for two years equal to $3.5m (0.7 * 5 = 3.5)."

Therefore, RP Romo, Sergio, $3m (2015) renewed at 70% is actually $2.1m, but since we operate in increments of $0.5m, and because the new contract cannot be less than 70% of his current contract, the extension would be:

RP Romo, Sergio, $2.5m (2017)
