League changes
« on: March 13, 2022, 09:18:53 PM »
for next year we will be eliminating the google sheets and letting Fantrax take care of all the roster and contract admin. along with that we will also use fantrax to enforce roster transaction rules including IR and minor leagues. this will eliminate the possibility of people breaking the rules because it just wont let us. I will be posting here how it will be different, what rules will change and some things Im still looking at. everything is not set in stone yet and I still have some more investigating to do on some of the features but I will give everyone an Idea of the changes that are coming. overall the changes will make the league run better and easier.

the draft

The draft will be conducted on Fantrax. Since all players that are not on a team can be selected so it is up to each of us to ensure that we draft only eligible players (under 40 NHL games played). If you time out or you are on auto pick it will select the top guy in your que. If your que is empty, it will skip your pick. All picks are placed in the minors, so you need to make sure you have open spots in you minors for all your picks. If you don?t have an open spot in the minors, it will skip your pick. If you don?t plan on using a pick and you can?t trade it please let us know so we can skip it. All skipped picks are lost and wont be made up.

the key here is to have enough guys you like in your que and an open roster spot in the minors just in case you cant get on.

one thing we need to decide is do we keep the current contract system for the drafted players or simplify it to all have the same contract. thinking about this it wont be too much extra work to keep the same contract system for the prospects

Minors

we will let fantrax regulate the minors. we will set the minors eligibility rules for the 40 games played and after that you will not be able to send players to the minors. if they are in the minors when they hit 40 games I think it is ok to leave them there until the season is over but I need to investigate it more to make sure there are no problems with it. you would be able to promote and demote anytime that it follows the fantrax eligibility rules. and you will not have to make a post in profsl for any of these types of roster moves. This also eliminates the 2 way contracts

since this is going to limit which players can be in the minors we can talk about if we should increase the major league roster size and decrease the minors roster size by the same amount.

players in the minors all would have there contract values listed but the years would not advance untill they reach the 40 game limit and while in the minors they do not count against the cap

IR

To be eligible a player must be marked as injured, IR eligible by fantrax. The player can stay on IR only as long as he is injured and when he is deemed healthy by fantrax, he must be taken off of IR with any as needed moves to be cap and roster compliant. There will be a TBD # days grace period to remove the player from IR. If you don?t do it with in that time Fantrax will drop the player from your team.

we will have to figure what will be a fair grace period time.

IR replacements will change. there will be no IR replacement designation. the player on IR does not count against you roster size or cap so you can sign a replacement but if you have to cut the player when you IR player returns then there will be a cap hit.

to help ease this and the minors eligibility we should consider raising the majors to 30 players and the minors down to 25

there is 1 more change coming. it looks like they will be phasing or the forum here. profsl will be going away some time around the start of the next season. they are talking about going to a site called discord. this is not just for BYNHL but for all leagues on profsl.

  • dbreer23: Take two to tango, though. Most owners with adequate or surplus SP aren't interested in prospects as they're trying to win now.

  • Braves155: My issue in LIVE currently is having Strider/Alcantara/Giolito all on the long shelf, so I am more retooling than rebuilding

  • Daddy: Also agreed. Top quality pitching probably means not much depth. A few injuries can challenge you. Pitching other than top end pitching has been devalued in fantasy. Everyone wants the stud.

  • Daddy: I here to tell you that ALL major league pitching is good pitching. A great hitter beats a terrible pitcher just 3 out of 10 times. Which means the worst pitchers > the greatest hitters.

  • Braves155: The problem with the minors is not the system as a whole, it is some Farm Systems are more 'elite' at being able to produce talent than others. If you look across MLB teams you can pretty easily tell the great systems from the weaker systems and talent development

  • Braves155: With regard to pitching in the Minors...there is  method to the madness. It is all about what you make of it tho. I agree that it can seem certain type arms in the minors are a dime a dozen
