Title: 2013 Draft Talk
Post by: chrisetc21 on November 10, 2013, 04:57:48 PM
Curious everyone's thoughts on the draft so far.  I was curious where Rowdy Tellez would go.  I know I was probably going to take him in the 4th or 5th round but looks like he didn't make it.

He was my target with my second pick of the 4th round.

I figured with those several fourth rounders that you would use one on him there.  I figured if he was still there at my 4th round pick I'd have to take him.  DBacks blew it all up though, ha.

DBacks have had a nice draft.  Hunter Harvey, Justin Williams, and Tellez.  I know I was taking Harvey at 22 if he made it there.

Yeah, my 4th round got blown up. I had planned on Bobby Wahl to be there at #8 in the 4th.

I have a pretty awesome strategy.  It consists of waiting until I'm on the clock the research the next 15-20 players on the draft list.  Boom!

The draft would be going alot better if you'd stop picking my players.... Seriously, McMahon, Bostick, & Lively were the guys I was targeting in rounds 2-4 and you took all three.  I pretty much already know who you'll be taking at 3.29.

Happy to get Shipley with my first rounder, though I'm surprised he fell in both (MLB and Armchair) drafts. Losing that 3rd rounder to KC kills though, with the players still on the board.

Shipley at 15 is crazy.  I would have taken him around 5th-7th.

And Frazier at #13? Look at the players who were drafted before him: Ciuffo, McGuire, Smith, even Meadows, so lots of fallers.

I thought Meadows was flat out better than Frazier.  I was shocked Meadows was there at seven.  I was going to take him at three if Gray and Bryant were gone.

Could go either way on that one, but Frazier showed much more power in college. Seems like the "experts" were split. I was shocked McGuire was drafted at #5. Definitely a gamble, but could be huge payoff.

Frazier didn't go to college but yeah he's got the power.  Meadows is actually bigger than Frazier so I think his power will be there.  I was a little surprised by McGuire there since he's a high school catcher but I could understand the logic.  Good catchers are hard to come by.

You hit it on the head with McGuire. That's why I drafted him. Catchers are hard to come by and I like his bat a lot. Could wind up regretting it. OF is much easier to get and I have a slew of them. I was hoping to get Tellez later as well. I think that was a hype overdraft but can't blame anyone. You take the guys you like and hope they pan out.

I think the real make or break players will be from rounds 5-10.....lots of talent still but will it pan out for some minor league depth?

Nice to see the activity way up over past years.

I gambled with Dillon Overton as the TJ survivor but figured why not as he was ranked ahead of Gray at some points prior to the draft.

Tommy John isn't much of a gamble these days.  Shoulder injuries are the bigger risks.

I liked Bellinger better, his dad was a former big leaguer, but I was going to take Gonsalves in the 4th!

How much stock do y'all put into certain colleges (i.e. Rice) abusing pitchers?

The track record doesn't lie.
