Title: Welcome! Find League Start-Up Rules Here:
Post by: WestCoastExpress on October 08, 2020, 04:20:00 PM
Welcome to ProFSL Dynasty Hockey!

We're excited to offer a brand new league, with differences from other leagues past and present on this site, as well as a couple different and unique twists.

The aim is to create a league different from what has been on this site in the past, by:

Given this is a start-up league, we will have "rules" in place that are a one-off that only apply for the first season (or only the first little while as the league gets up and running):

(1) Initial Rosters
- Rosters will initially be taken as of September 29th, 2020  (After the Cup Finals, before most re-signs and buy-outs happened, before the NHL Entry Draft, before FA, etc.)
- All players in the minors will have $0.7m (R) contracts (to keep things simple, as they vary from $0.7m-$0.9m)
- Players in your minors may have >30 NHL games played; Rosters taken include experienced AHL players. These players will eventually be removed (feel free to include them in your initial roster drops)

(2) Three Free Drops
Each franchise will be given three free drops. Any player, any position can be dropped from your roster at no cap penalty
* You may not trade for a player and use that player as one of your free drops. These 3 free drops may only be for players inherited with your own franchise's roster and there will be a fairly short window upon league start-up to use these 3 drops
* You do not have to use all 3 drops if you do not want to

(3) Unrestricted Free Agents (UFA's)
Option 1:
All existing UFA's on your roster are able to be re-signed via regular extension rules
(See: https://www.profsl.com/smf/index.php?topic=371701.0)
Option 2:
If your UFA signs with your team, you can put that real-life contract into effect here in PDH
(Player MUST sign with your franchise namesake. This does not apply if they sign as a FA on a different team)

(4) Restricted Free Agents (RFA's)
All existing RFA's will be able to be retained. There are options to you for this:
(i) If your RFA in real life signs a contract between now and the PDH deadline for teams to re-sign their RFA and UFA's, you can put that real-life contract into place
(ii) You can re-sign them at full price from their normal contract extension value to the max years allowed under extension rules (just like a UFA)
(iii) You may sign them to a 2-year "bridge" deal that is 15% less than their normal contract extension value

Benefits to each are:
- Real-life contract might be longer than what contract values would allow for in our league's re-sign
- Signing as a UFA could get them on a decent priced deal for 3-5 years instead of the 2-year bridge contract. And generally speaking, in 2 years time that player will have developed more and when up for extension in 2 years would most likely re-sign at a higher dollar amount than right now
- Signing on a bridge deal with % reduced for 2 years saves teams on the cap the next 2 years. BUT as stated above might end up being more costly in the long term for years 3+ of the contract

**This is a 1-time "rule"
Next year and beyond, all RFA's will enter our RFA pool
See RFA Rules here: https://www.profsl.com/smf/index.php?topic=371699.0

(5) 2020 Rookie Draft Order
The PDH Rookie Draft order will be randomized. It will NOT follow the NHL franchise's standings from last season.

One of these sites will be used for the lottery randomizer (both sites are the same thing):
https://www.fantasydraftlottery.com/
https://www.draftpicklottery.com/

Each team will have an equal shot at the #1 pick (1 in 16 chance; Each team will get "1 ball" in the draw)

A screenshot will be posted to reveal the draft order

Since we are not going by reverse order of a previous season's standings and are all on an even playing field:
The Rookie Draft will be held in a snaking draft order set-up
This means that if you receive the 1st Overall Pick you DO NOT also receive the 17th Overall Pick (to start Round 2). You would receive the 1st (Round 1), 32nd (Round 2) and then 33rd (Round 3) picks.

This is the same draft set-up as a full re-draft league, or a one-year money league you may do with your buddies.

(6) 2020 Rookie Draft
- The 2020 PDH Rookie Draft will allow the following:

1) 2020 NHL draft class, posted here: https://www.profsl.com/smf/index.php?topic=372279.0
2) Any minor league players with 0 games of NHL experience (This includes playoff or last year's "bubble" games)

(Due to the 2020 contraction draft upon league start-up including un-owed franchise's minor league players/prospects, we will still limit guys with at least 1 game to be contraction eligible only)
- 2021 PDH Rookie Draft and beyond will include any eligible player in an NHL minors system

(7) 2020 Contraction Draft
All players from the remaining 15 franchises that go un-chosen will be available in a contraction draft
Real-life contracts are in effect for all players

All players who go un-drafted in the Contraction Draft will enter Free Agency

Note: These picks cannot be traded.

(8) Contraction Draft Order
To be fair, the Contraction Draft order will be the exact reverse of the Rookie Draft order
So, if you get the 1st pick in the Rookie Draft, you will receive the 16th pick in the Contraction Draft
Contraction Draft will also be a snaking draft
There will be 6 Rounds for our Contraction Draft (remaining players available through Free Agency)

(9) Name Your Team Captains
Please remember to name Team Captains before the start of next season (1 C and 20%, 3 A's at 15%)
Team Captain info can be found here: https://www.profsl.com/smf/index.php?topic=371705.0

(10) Trading
- Trading will ONLY commence when all 16 franchises are signed up and set up on Fantrax, and rosters posted on ProFSL
- Technically there is nothing stopping you from negotiating trades with teams in the league before the league is filled, however no trades can be posted until all teams are in and we post that "Trading is Open"
- The Trade Block thread will only be posted/open when trading is open
- This will give all teams a relatively equal shot to negotiate with all other 15 owners if desired
- Trading of 2020 draft picks is allowed
- Trading of 2021 draft picks is also allowed
* Remember that next year RFA begins, and to bid on RFA's you must have the necessary draft pick compensation
