Interesting thing...Rask is on a leave of absence. Don't think this has ever come up before, for us anyway. Can I place him on IR? Don't figure it would be fair that he continue to count against my active roster.

Definitely is an interesting case, but I think it is covered well in the actual rulebook. Our IR spots are for long-term situations and not really supposed to be used for short-term cases. Though the real-life NHL can place players on short-term and retroactive IR, and our rules state that anyone on IR in real life will qualify for IR in Backyard.

Everything I've seen has said Rask is being given a few days, and TSN lists him as day-to-day. Therefore, he doesn't qualify for IR. If he was given a leave of absence and it was framed as a prolonged situation, or if TSN listed him as "out indefinitely" then he would qualify.

https://www.cbssports.com/nhl/news/bruins-grant-tuukka-rask-leave-of-absence-confirm-charlie-mcavoy-is-in-concussion-protocol/

A) IR Spots and Qualification
Each team will have 3 IR spots to place players that will injured. They must be injured for 10 games or 4 weeks (the longest projected time out) from the time the GM submits the IR player. A player put on IR still counts against the cap but doesn't count against the roster size.
Stipulation: If a NHL player is on the real IR they are eligible for the Backyard IR and do not have to be missing 10 games or 4 weeks from the time the GM submits.

We will use this site from reference of injury reserve:
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/injuries/
For our purposes out indefinitely will qualify for IR placement. Plus anything over 4 weeks excepted to be out.
We will also used the fantrax data to confirm or dispute these injuries.

I can't remember for the life of me if you can trade money in this league? From my quick research it seems like no. Maybe I'm just blind and it's in the rules

We going to get our awards from last year?

What a horrible time to ask this question, why didn't you say anything earlier in the season?!?!?!

I've never won a Backyard award, so I totally forgot that it was even a thing.

At this point, I'm on the fence. We could award the 2018 and 2019 awards both this off-season, but that would be a lot of discounts and I don't know if any team would get too much of an advantage for 2019-2020. I think it'd be good to have Drew weigh in. Maybe even do a league vote on the issue. Maybe if we award both years, a team couldn't claim the same award twice, I'm not sure if anyone is in that situation.

Just assumed it would get taken care of properly. Lots of time to sort it out yet as the 2nd extension round isn't done. Anyway, as the winner of last years cup it'd be lousy not to get my prize.

Completely missed guys, but my opinion would be delay extension period 2 until awards are in place from the previous season, there are only a few that affect any discounts. I would say that they could be retroactive to extension period #1 as well but not free agency.

For rounding how does it work again?
For example if I apply 10% off on signing say Sean Couturier at an extension of $4.9m, then I would get a $0.49m discount rounded to either $0.5 or $0.4?

For awards from last season, it would only apply to extensions from period 1 and not period 2 of this season? As i have couple big resigns, it would be helpful to use those in period 2 as well.

Just read the awards section and it states used in the following season, does extension period 2 not part of current season?

Just looking for clarification

  • indiansnation: Giants To Sign Blake Snell March 18th, 2024 at 8:45pm CST • By Anthony Franco 8:45pm: Snell receives a $15MM salary for the upcoming season and has a $17MM signing bonus that will not be paid until 2026, reports Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle (on X). That indicates he’ll be deciding on whether to opt out of a $30MM salary next winter, although the delayed date on the payment of the bonus reduces the team’s short-term commitment.  8:23pm: Blake Snell is in agreement with the Giants on a two-year, $62MM contract that allows him to opt out after the upcoming season, reports Jon Heyman of the New York Post (X link). San Francisco adds the defending NL Cy Young winner to the top of a staff that also includes last year’s runner-up, Logan Webb.  ADVERTISEMENT
