The NHL's Board of Governors has stated the expansion fee for a team that starts play in 2020-21 will be $650 million bucks! I think Vegas cost $500.
That's big news! :judge:
Let's see, what would they be called, the Seattle Sonics? Seattle Steelheads? Seattle Metropolitans would be cool, they were the 1917 Stanley Cup Champs(https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/1b/Seattle_Metropolitans_Crest.gif)

The Seattle Metropolitans would be nice to see! If Ottawa went with their classic winning nickname the Senators.
Seems like will likely happen with the quality of the ownership group they have for the Seattle team.

Funny they're using the Minny Wild colors but that's all good. Now let's see which franchise can take those colors on a Stanley Cup parade!?! LOL

Here's a good article about the history of Seattle hockey. Good read. :toast:

Seems like the NHL will have plenty of time to figure out realignment to shift a team from the Pacific to Central. We're 3 1/2 yrs away from their 1st game. Time will fly by. The dollars must be good or there'd be no talk of expansion. Either way, it's great to see hockey expanding.

:iatp: I couldn't agree more with TheBeef. It is fantastic to see talk of expansion immediately after a successful Vegas expansion process that has produced a winning team and what appears to be a stable franchise.

Personally I was hoping for a Quebec Nordiques return so the Detroit Red Wings can come back to the Norris. Expansion is great but until the dope in charge makes a TV deal in America to have more network coverage, the NHL wont be what it could be.

I hear you on that brother. Very sad state of affairs when it comes to the NHL's TV deal here in the states. Luckily some of my old buddies north of the border point me in the right direction to catch some games I otherwise wouldn't have access to.
Seattle would be an interesting city for an NHL team. They'd have to draw from the north to make it work.

I think Seattle will be fine, that MLS team draws big time. Losing the Supersonics was a wake up call to the Seattle fandom. I always thought they drew well, greed may have played a part in their decision to go to Kansas City.
I have NHL Gamecenter, pretty happy with it except the fact all my Blackhawks games are blacked out.

3 years seems far away but if there's a new FNHL Seattle franchise, they'll be up and running the yr prior in 2019-20 which is only 2yrs away. That's crazy!
