Title: A Look at the 2015 FGM Playoffs
Post by: Flash on September 09, 2015, 06:13:50 PM
Matchups: Period 23 (Mon Sep 7, 2015 - Sun Sep 13, 2015)
Away   Points                       Home Points
Chicago Cubs   317.8      Philadelphia Phillies   514.5
Texas Rangers   237.3      Oakland Athletics   347

This is how it looks going into the third day of the Championship Series.

In the National League, the Phillies, in the midst of what was supposed to be a rebuilding year, continue their storybook season with a lead over the upstart Cubs.  The #4 Cubs disposed of the #5 Giants in the Wildcard matchup and then upended the #1 seed Dodgers to advance to the Championship Series.  The Phillies have had a little magic of their own as they defeated the #2 Brewers on their way to the NLCS.

In the American League, the #5 Rangers have made an improbable playoff run.  First, they defeated the #4 Mariners in the Wildcard, and then bounced the defending FGM Champions, the #2 seeded Yankees!  The reward--a matchup in the Championship Series with the #1 seed A's.  The A's flexed their muscles with a convincing win over the #3 Twins in Divisional play.

Who will emerge as the last two standing in their quest to be the 2015 FGM Champion?  Will the Rangers continue their Cinderella season and find a way to defeat the Oakland powerhouse to advance to the World Series?  Will the Cubs continue their playoff run?  Or will it be the Phillies who get a chance to find the promised land sooner than expected?

Who will hoist the Championship Trophy  :win: and pop the champagne ?

Any predictions?  Stay tuned--it's going to be a wild ride!

Cubbies are just excited to finally make it past the Wildcard round after a couple stagnant years. With nearly all of their starting pitching taking the mound today, this could the most important day of their season.

Matchups: Period 23 (Mon Sep 7, 2015 - Sun Sep 13, 2015)
Away    Points                       Home Points
Chicago Cubs   660.6      Philadelphia Phillies   708.6
Texas Rangers   337.6      Oakland Athletics   569

As we go into the final three days of the League Championship Series, some interesting things have developed.

The Cubs have closed the cap on the Phillies and are behind by only 48 points!  The Phillies, however, have a pitching advantage because they have 3 SPs left and the Cubs have none.  Who said pitching isn't important in FGM?

Will the Cubs hitters come alive and do what they did in their two previous series?  Will they have enough firepower to overcome their depleted pitching staff?  The next three days will provide the answer.

On the other side, the Rangers seem to be fading as the A's have increased their lead. With three days to go, the A's have stretched their lead to 232 points.  In terms of pitching, the A's have 3 SPs waiting to take the mound.  The Rangers, on the other hand, have some decisions to make.  The Rangers have 4 SPs eligible to pitch, but only 3 remaining pitching spots.  Who will take the mound and who will sit?  Decisions, decisions, decisions.  Will the the three who are chosen help the Rangers' hitters continue their quest to the World Series?  Or will the A's show why they are the favorites and continue to extend their lead?

The next three days will certainly be exciting as the drama unfolds for FGM fans!  Who do you think is headed to the promised land?

C'mon cubbies!! A couple stellar performances from Strasburg and Richards have :CHC: right back in it. Let's hope the bats come alive the last few days. I'm looking at your -20 pts so far Trout! Pull yourself together.

Going into the weekend, with two days left to play, here's the latest in the FGM playoff picture:

Even though the Phillies had three players who did not play in their lineup (the Cubs had two), they managed to score 147.76 points to the Cubs negative score of -25.48.  It's looking bleak for the upstart Cubs as they have fallen 221.24 points behind the team from Philadelphia.  If a miracle finish is on the horizon, it better come on Saturday, or the the Phillies are on a collision course with the Oakland A's.

The A's have taken a commanding lead over the Rangers by outscoring them today 226.3 to 25.39.  In the two previous series the Rangers could do no wrong, but this week they have have fallen on hard times and like their counterparts from Chicago, they will need some divine intervention as they find themselves down by 432 points (795.3 to 362.95).

Unless something unexpected happens, it's shaping up to be a World Series between the Philies and the A's.  Stay tuned--maybe we'll get the surprise of our lives and something extraordinary will happen.

I'm very fortunate to make the World Series as I played some really good teams.  Congrats to Rob making it to another World Series.  Your team is amazing!!  Its going to take a lot of lucky breaks for me to beat the A's.  I'm getting killed with injuries at the wrong time.  Good luck Rob and I'm looking forward to hopefully being competitive with your team!  :toast:

Good luck as well.  I always have said, getting to the playoffs is the victory after that you never know from week to week.

Congrats to the Phillies and A's for their World Series appearances. To those who didn't make it, there were some hard fought battles. Everyone should be proud of their teams to make to their respective levels in the playoffs.
Going to be an interesting 2 weeks!

Injuries, slumps, rest for starters, and a host of other factors always affect fantasy play.  For us, in any FGM matchup, whether it be during the regular season, but more so in the playoffs, the dreaded red flag is an ominious sign.  It's something none of us like to see.

The Phillies have had a successful season, and have stayed pretty much injury free, with the exception of Joe Panik.  With that, Panik contributed some solid nights last week in the Phillies matchup with the Cubs--but then Bryce Harper gets involved in a freak collision on the basepaths and has to leave the game in the 1st inning on Sunday.  Will he be available?  Will the stomach flu continue to hamper Sterling Marte and keep him out of the lineup?  Will the Giants risk playing a banged up Joe Panik with Kelby Tomlinson playing so well?  These are all important questions for the Philadelphia Phillies as they begin their World Series battle with the Oakland A's.

For their part, the red flag is nowhere in sight in the Oakland A's lineup.  The A's dusted off the red-hot Rangers and advanced to the World Series as FGM's #1 seed.  Will the powerful lineup of the A's, featuring Buster Posey, Andrew McCutchen, Josh Donaldson, Robinson Cano, and Matt Carpenter be too much for FGM's "rebuilding wonders" Phillies?

Will the red flag be the deciding factor? Or will the FGM community be entertained by a competive, evenly matched battle that comes down to the final day?  The 2015 playoffs have had some surprises--will the World Series be any different?

Stay tuned for further updates!!! :bacon: :bla: :bla: :taco:

Blackmon out the last two days, Seager sitting today.  Due to injuries my lineup is sporting Reynolds, Infante, Pham, and Norris.  LOL.  And I have no pitching.  Oakland has an incredible lineup and they were clearly the best team in the league this year.  I'm happy I made it to the series this year and I'm looking forward to contending the next few years as well!!

I'm thrilled to just be competing with Oakland.  He has more pitching left which I believe will give him the edge.  I did learn this postseason that pitching is important in FGM!  I'm hoping Seager plays the next two days which may give me a shot.  Its been a great World Series so far!

This one could come down to the wire. Oakland has 3 starters Sunday but can only use 2 since he has 6 starts this  week. Decisions, decisions?

Thanks, great matchup.  Arrieta helped me win FGM, but kept the Pirate bats quiet, that I needed to win MB.
