This is an open discussion thread to talk about the impact of the NHL season currently put on hold.

To get the discussion going, here are some possible outcomes given possible NHL decisions re 2019-20 NHL season:

1) NHL pauses regular season and resumes regular play per existing matches —- RECOMMENDATION: FNHL to resume FNHL playoffs with updated calendar dates.

2) If the NHL decides to cancel the remainder of the season... RECOMMENDATION: FNHL will keep FNHL regular season results, cancel FNHL playoffs & carry over 2019-20 prize pool to 2020-21 FNHL; FNHL draft contingent on NHL holding a draft with weighted lottery to determine draft position for the 8 remaining playoff teams.

3) If NHL decides to eliminate the remainder of its regular season and begin NHL playoffs when play resumes, FNHL playoffs will be cancelled and prize pool carried over to 2020-21 season.

The points above are for discussion and not firm decisions.
Please feel free to post your thoughts.
That is a fair plan.

There is also the possibility the NHL resumes play with a revised schedule but the same number of games over the course of what should be 3.5 weeks. First, we should ensure the remaining 1/2 week is balanced in a similar manner to what should have been the balance of this current week. Also, it will be important to determine if Fantrax can similarly account for and capture the future revised schedule and merge the new dates into the current Franchise NHL playoff set-up.

It really is a wait and see approach given how new this process is for all of us.

Chicago management wishes the Nashville Predators good luck on the road to the Championship. Blackhawks had a lacklustre season and as with many teams in Franchise NHL, injuries took a toll.
We will start preparing for the off-season.

I believe the fact owners pay annually to retain ownership of a team plus there is a lottery system in place both dissuade traditional "tanking" activities in FNHL.

I will agree with DToxFan. Well said.

Welcome to Franchise NHL, 99WildThing.

As others have said, you have purchased a fine franchise in the Carolina Hurricanes. If you are ready to talk trade in the off-season, feel free to contact us in Chicago.

Well done Jonathan. You hung in there and went through a classic rebuild that has netted you some of the top young talent in the game. Bravo!

Franchise NHL / Re: FNHL Playoff Race: 5 WKS LEFT!
« on: February 10, 2020, 01:11:25 PM »
Although MCrow is right, I know I saw the correct 5 week Play-off period in Fantrax as recently as early January.

Also, the FNHL Deadlines page has shown the correct March 2nd start date since 2019-20 deadlines were finalized in the Fall.

Odd that Fantrax has been altered.

Preds win now and Vegas wins next year. Martinook and Olofsson are good players. Aberg is good but Leafs are reluctant to bring him up so he is currently in fantasy limbo.

Calgary Flames and Chicago Blackhawks agree to a deal. Veteran pivot Jeff Carter is sent to Chicago in return for a pair of blueliners and some cap space.

Trade to Calgary
Ron Hainsey, $2.8m (2019-2022)
D - Connor Clifton (SDP 2019: 2013 5/133 - 49 Games)
$3.0m saved in cap

FOR

Trade to Chicago
Jeff Carter, $5.8m (2018-2022)

Thanks for the trade talks Dickie. :toast:

:iatp: Chicago management agrees to this trade. The acquisition of Carter improves our offence immediately. As we have extra defencemen, we are able to accommodate Calgary's request for help on the blueline. Good working with you on this trade, DToxFan. :toast:

  • dbreer23: Take two to tango, though. Most owners with adequate or surplus SP aren't interested in prospects as they're trying to win now.

  • Braves155: My issue in LIVE currently is having Strider/Alcantara/Giolito all on the long shelf, so I am more retooling than rebuilding
    Today at 02:46:48 PM
  • Daddy: Also agreed. Top quality pitching probably means not much depth. A few injuries can challenge you. Pitching other than top end pitching has been devalued in fantasy. Everyone wants the stud.

  • Daddy: I here to tell you that ALL major league pitching is good pitching. A great hitter beats a terrible pitcher just 3 out of 10 times. Which means the worst pitchers > the greatest hitters.

  • Brent: Greg Maddux had the best outlook.  He viewed himself as tye dealer/house and you had to beat him.  Just like in the casino, the house nearly always wins.

  • Braves155: The problem with the minors is not the system as a whole, it is some Farm Systems are more 'elite' at being able to produce talent than others. If you look across MLB teams you can pretty easily tell the great systems from the weaker systems and talent development

  • Braves155: With regard to pitching in the Minors...there is  method to the madness. It is all about what you make of it tho. I agree that it can seem certain type arms in the minors are a dime a dozen

  • Daddy: Mr Braves you are my guy. There isnt anything wrong with minor league studs or flops. I get it in REAL baseball.
  • Daddy: This is fantasy baseball. We dont generate revenue selling prospects and merchandising. Our top farms dont get a write up in Sports Illustrated.

  • Daddy: Load up on MLB guys, then near MLB guys, and only then is the quality of your prospects matter. Ya dig ;)

  • Brent: I over value minors to a fault, but I am softening on that stance.
