Seattle Mariners History :SEA:

2021: 3rd in AL West (113-49)
The :SEA: made the playoffs as the 5th seed in the American League.  The :SEA: were a part of a very competitive AL West and managed to hold off a challenge by the :NYY: of the AL East for the last playoff spot.  Their Wild Card matchup with the :HOU2: was a bit disappointing as the :SEA: succumbed to a poor scoring week and exited the playoffs with a loss to the :HOU2:.  The future of the :SEA: looks bright with a lineup that features a MI tandem of Jose Altuve and Bo Bichette.

2020: 4th in West Division (40-20)
The Mariners were trying to replicate their Cinderella season of a year ago.  They could not do so as they finished out of the plays, 11th overall, and 4th in the West.  At the start of the season, jblum informed the league that this would be his final season in FGM.  The future of the Mariners is still bright however, as a new GM has already been hired.

2019: 2nd in AL West (106-56)
There was a bit of a hiccup for the Mariners at the start of the season. The GM suddenly resigned and the team was without a leader for a bit.  But, as good fortune would have it, jblum returned to FGM and graciously agreed to fill the void.  As the season progressed, jblum negotiated a variety of trades and made a furious push towards the end of the season and made the playoffs as the 2nd Wild Card team.  In the Wild Card Round, the Mariners defeated the Yankees.  Then, in the ALDS, the Mariners met the #1 seed Tampa Bay Rays.  Much to the Rays surprise, the Mariners sent them packing and advanced to the ALCS.  The fairy tale ended there, however, as the Los Angeles Angels sent the Mariners home in defeat.

2018: 1st in AL West (129-33)
Following up on its championship season, the Mariners dominated the AL West.  Entering the playoffs as the #2 Seed, the Mariners were filled with confidence as it sought to repeat as the FGM champion.  However, the world of fantasy play is ruled by the unexpected, and true to form, the Mariners were upended by the #6 Seed Oakland A’s.  The Mariners bats went quiet and the Mariners were unceremoniously bounced from the ALDS.

2017: 1st in AL West - FGM Champions(122-40)
The Mariners were impressive throughout the the season and the playoffs.  Ldsjayhawk assembled a potent lineup top to bottom.  In the ALDS, the Mariners disposed of the Tigers with relative ease.  Then, in the ALCS, the Mariners took out the #1 seed Orioles.  The World Series were much more of a challenge.  The Dodgers led after the first week, but when the second week finished, the Mariners rolled up the points and secured its first FGM Championship. :win:

2016: 2nd in AL West (109-48)

2015: 4th in AL West (63-99)

2014: 4th in AL West (63-99)

2013: 4th in AL West (63-99)

2012: 4th in AL West (63-99)

2011: 4th in AL West (63-99)
The Mariners were perhaps the worst team in MLB but were able to pick up a few extra wins preventing them from having the #1 overall pick.  Biggest accomplishment in 2011 was acquiring Carlos Gonzalez while retaining Mike Carp.  The team has no pitching and a lot of holes but over $40m in cap space headed into 2012.

2010: 4th in AL West (61-101)
The off-season brought on new management.  Chris McLachlan, from the U.K., brought little change by singing many players to extensions including Felix Hernandez to a 2-year $36m deal.  However, with plenty of money to spare, Chris brought in Carlos Delgado, Orlando Hudson, Rich Harden, Randy Wolf, Mike Gonzalez and Ben Sheets.  Many of these players became bad acquisitions and the front office became inactive going into the trade deadline leading to his replacement.  The team tanked in the 2nd half with many questions going into the offseason.

2009: 3rd in AL West (80-82)
Original management did little with the franchise as it competed similarly to its real life counterpart in 2009.

  • dbreer23: Take two to tango, though. Most owners with adequate or surplus SP aren't interested in prospects as they're trying to win now.

  • Braves155: My issue in LIVE currently is having Strider/Alcantara/Giolito all on the long shelf, so I am more retooling than rebuilding
    Yesterday at 02:46:48 PM
  • Daddy: Also agreed. Top quality pitching probably means not much depth. A few injuries can challenge you. Pitching other than top end pitching has been devalued in fantasy. Everyone wants the stud.

  • Daddy: I here to tell you that ALL major league pitching is good pitching. A great hitter beats a terrible pitcher just 3 out of 10 times. Which means the worst pitchers > the greatest hitters.

  • Brent: Greg Maddux had the best outlook.  He viewed himself as tye dealer/house and you had to beat him.  Just like in the casino, the house nearly always wins.

  • Brent: He had that view b/c of his father who was a blackjack dealer in Vegas.
  • Daddy: Yes @Brent!! That is it exactly. Pitching is the house & it always wins in the end.

  • Braves155: The problem with the minors is not the system as a whole, it is some Farm Systems are more 'elite' at being able to produce talent than others. If you look across MLB teams you can pretty easily tell the great systems from the weaker systems and talent development
    Yesterday at 05:57:14 PM
  • Braves155: With regard to pitching in the Minors...there is  method to the madness. It is all about what you make of it tho. I agree that it can seem certain type arms in the minors are a dime a dozen
    Yesterday at 06:02:39 PM
  • Daddy: Mr Braves you are my guy. There isnt anything wrong with minor league studs or flops. I get it in REAL baseball.
  • Daddy: This is fantasy baseball. We dont generate revenue selling prospects and merchandising. Our top farms dont get a write up in Sports Illustrated.
