Cross-Court Dynasty: Transactions / Re: Trade Discussion Thread

An update to my trade block

These guys available basically free if anyone wants them (looking for any 2nd round pick or G-league eligible or player with his salary paid):
- Abdel Nader ($1.8M)
- Deonte Burton ($1.7M)
-Luke Kornet ($2.3M)

All 1 year contracts, Burton will be an RFA.

Also:
H. Diallo (1.7M,2021,RFA, looking for pick in front half of 2nd round)

Dort, Gafford, and Bazley can move too, but I think they can have some value in a league this deep. I would take offers on Adams too.

Also, Chris Paul at 2 years, $30M is available for anything useful.

I could really use a forward, but am open to any deals. My goal is to contend immediately.

I thought that seemed low, so I looked up Fox's ranking for 2018-19 which was #29. So I think he should be getting paid a lot more if I understand the system right.

Cross-Court Dynasty: Completed Trades / OKC-GSW trade
« on: November 03, 2020, 07:44:35 PM »
GSW gets:
2020 pick #21
2020 pick #51
2021 OKC 1st round pick (top 4 protected, 2022 unprotected if not conveyed)
Terrance Ferguson (3.9M, 2021, RFA)
Mike Muscala (2.3M, 2021)

OKC gets:
Stephen Curry (30M, 2022) salary paid 2021

I was planning on rebuilding, but still think this is a low price for Curry. I am not sure how protections are supposed to work, but that can obviously be modified if it is needed and the trade is ok'd otherwise.

I think we might need changes to the rookie scale.

1) If this league keeps all salary rules the same year to year, then we should definitely have a tab in the CCD google sheets to record the scale in case the NBA scale changes with the salary cap.

2. Also, right now pick 30 gets 1.6M per year for 4 years (2 team options), while pick 31 can get 0.5M per year for 3 years. That seems like a big drop in annual salary and that it should be a little more gradual.

I agree that Curry for those picks is sketchy even if his salary wasn't paid. If anything is vetoed, then that initial deal should have been.

I didn't like the Kemba/Kawhi deal or a couple other deals either, but those could be justified with load management concerns or personal preference.

Phoenix and OKC have the wrong Diallo on Fantrax. Other than that my roster seems fine.

OKC trade block

These guys nearly free if anyone wants them:
Abdel Nader ($1.8M)
Deonte Burton ($1.7M)
Mike Muscala ($2.3M)
Terrance Ferguson ($3.9M)
Steven Adams ($27.5M; bad but can be extended for cheaper, I may be willing to pay a little of this if I get something good back)
All 1 year contracts, Ferguson/Burton would be RFAs.

Also, Chris Paul at 2 years, $30M, but I am guessing he will end up being one of my drops unless I get an offer for him (possibly with me paying a little for 2020).

Thanks for the clarifications. Sorry, but I realized I have two more questions.

When releasing a player, do the cap hit amounts need to be in the form 75% first year, 50% second year, 25% third year if it is not all lumped in to the current year? For example, could it be paid 100% first year, 25% second year, 25% third year?

Is the extension ratings based on per-game or totals? Also, is it basketballmonster or somewhere else?

I am guessing the first option since it is simpler, but wanted to check (even though I don't plan on buying out any multiyear contracts right now). At the very guess I would assume that you can't put off paying the 75% and 50%.

Clarifications that I want to double-check I understand correctly:
Can any player on an expiring contract be given an extension (with RFAs being slightly different as described in the rules?

For FA signings and extensions, are the ranges the required number of years or the max? For example, could someone extend/sign a player for 1 year, 20 million (which would not make any sense for an FA signing but would for an extension)?

Are G-League players still on normal contracts that just don't count against the cap (I assume so based on the rules)? Also, does the free drop for G-league rule basically mean that anyone with less than 60 games experience can be dropped with no cap hit?

Suggestion/comment on FA bidding
Also, salaries being based on total amount seems like it encourages long (and likely bad) contracts for older players a ton. It seems to me like using salary per year might be better, possibly with discounts for multiyear contracts. For example, something like paying 100% of the bid per year for 1 year, 90% per year for 2 years, ... 50% or 60% of the bid per year for 5 years. This still gives an advantage to owners willing to make multiyear deals without practically forcing long contracts for older stars. But if the total amount seemed to work well before, it might be best to keep it. My suggestion would probably require a rule restricting extensions to multiyear contracts as well to prevent high one-year contracts followed by extensions to abuse the system.

I also thought a soft cap/hard cap (min contracts, rookie contracts, resigning allowed to go over soft cap) seemed like a good idea at first, but that might just make things more complicated without much benefit.

I don't see anything else with the rules right now. They seem pretty good to me.

  • Brent: Agreed.  I have Amon Ra St. Brown and Aiyuk because I traded JJ.  I couldn't have acquired a player like ASB where I was picking in the 1st so I down tiered at WR to make a trio of Chase, ASB and Aiyuk instead of JJ, Chase and fill in the blank.

  • ldsjayhawk: That is probably even more true in baseball since your drafts don't payoff for 5 years or so.  And I will admit my conservatism may be the reason I only have one championship here at ProFSL

  • Brent: I'm contemplating doing a complete tear down in NFL Live and rebuild.  Honestly, I probably should have postered for it to be this season.  I still might, but I would legit need to go into the draft with 3-4 top 10 picks/+ many others.

  • Brent: Thank you.  Yes, I agree.  I do need to break one asset down to 3.  I did that with JJ, went from S tier to 2 A tiers.  Now I need to potentially go from an A tier to 3 Bs or something like that.  I've had some inquiries on Carr, but nothing worth moving him.
