Title: Rays and Blue Jays???
Post by: VolsRaysBucs on August 01, 2015, 12:58:46 AM
:TB: send
CI Victor Martinez 9(2015)*Rays pay 1.5m in 2015*
:TOR: send
OF Alex Jackson 0.5(p-n/a)
MI Tim Beckham 0.5(p-n/a)
CI/OF Darin Ruf 6.5(2016)

This deal was offered via a PM a few days ago and completely forgot about/lost/buried until the last hour.  Held out until last minute to see if Daniel would be able to respond for certainty.  Wanted to get this posted with the full understanding that Daniel has full right to not accept this deal, as the PM was not an official offer, but close enough that I wanted to get this posted in case the offer was official.  Daniel and Toronto to confirm if they so choose.

Jays accept. Sorry, I had forgotten to post it too. This trade gives us the CI we need to make a good run for the title this year and helps clear some capr room to resign kipnis next year

That Darin Ruf signing was, well, rough...

This trade has been ruled invalid. It was not consummated (confirmed) prior to the trade deadline. Both parties are long time members in FGM and are, or at least should be, aware of the trade deadline.

So let me make sure I understand this.  Two, as you stated, long-time members of FGM reach an agreement on a deal.  Due to circumstances outside of their control, they are unable (for a period of several hours directly preceding deadline) to communicate a final confirmation PM.  Once the site server is finally back up and running, one party clearly lays out the deal and the details in the transactions board after having waiting until the final moments hoping for a confirming PM.  Turns out, due to the server issues, our paths crossed.  Imagine a real-life GM not having a cell phone the day of the deadline due to circumstances none-his-own.

Fast-forward several hours and you have a co-commissioner that signs off on the deal and the other GM who logs on to accept terms.  Nearly, if not all other leagues on the site extended the deadline many hours to a days' length time period to account for the site issues.  No issues at this point, right?  Apparently, wrong.

I am at a complete loss to understand why this league continues to operate under such rigid and archaic standards.  When does common sense get allowed into the conversation?  This wasn't "car problems getting to a computer."  This was a site issue that prevented communication.  These are two GMs who've payed their dues and done their time, not fly-by-nighters trying to game the system.  Regardless, the handling of the situation has illustrated a bigger issue for me, which is what compelled me to speak out rather than just go along.

I can no longer justify spending as much time as I do on a league that no longer provides me the joy it once did.  To invest hours, be it in a deal shot down by an over-reaching TC or  trades ambushed by technical glitches to the site and then have those hours count for literally nothing...is no longer palatable.  I do not say any of this to cause problems for the league, quite literally the contrary.  I would like to see this league return to its glory days.  I hope this little note shakes some of the chains that bind it.  I will just watch from a distance at this point.

Effective the end of this season, I will be stepping down from my GM stake in the Rays and all positions on the staff.  It is not spilled milk, rather an accumulation of small instances that added up to an easy decision.  I bring this up now to give you guys the best opportunity to line up/recruit a replacement.  Best of luck boys, look forward to continue competing with many of you in the other various leagues!  :toast:

By your own admission this was an "offer" made "a few days ago" and forgotten. By definition a trade must be agreed upon by both parties therefore what you posted was not a trade.Your argument that the server was done for hours doesn't hold a lot of water when you admitted you made the proposal a few days ago. The server MAY have been down an hour and if I recall that was around 7:00. You posted with 1 minute 14 second to spare.
I'm sorry to see you go but don't blame the league for this. This deadline has been in place as long as I've been here and this is the first incident that we've had as far as I know. If you are serious about leaving we will replace you immediately. It wouldn't be fair to the new owner who should decide who to resign, among other long term decisions.

I don't care to hear about "fairness" to another owner.  As stated previously, I will step down effective the end of the season.  I can assure the team will be left in fine standing...

Edit: For the sake of transparency, the only "long-term" decision of any consequence is Victor Martinez.  Everyone else is locked up, a spare part, or a RP.
*Pending TB FA*
Victor Martinez
Andrew Romine
Jarrod Parker
Jacob Turner
Ross Ohlendorf
Kelvin Herrera
Drew Storen
Chad Qualls

Conveniently left out Adam Jones (http://www.profsl.com/smf/index.php?topic=216087.0) who is pretty important. I can expect an owner to come in and understand the rules and make a decision in the few days between end of season and closing the books.
My job is to look out for the league as a whole no matter how archaic it is. In fact, I prefer to keep it that way- Not just another Yahoo public league where we see how many trades we can make in a day. I like it realistic.
We'll be working n a replacement immediately, thanks for your time.
Rick

Wasn't conveniently forgotten, simple mistake, I have him down in my books as a pending re-sign.  Try not to forget how you were let back into the league, on a technicality, Hoss.  Best of luck going forward with a league so near and dear to you, one you've quit already how many times?  You may want to have a few more replacements (perhaps from those yahoo boards you so despise) for season's end...you know, just in case.   :toth:

I was unceremoniously dropped after offering to resign at the end of the season HOSS.  Hence your immediate replacement. Even with my time spent away from the league I can guarantee I've dedicated more time to this league than you have thought about, and yes, I'm proud of it's dinosaur image and uniqueness.  I'll stand behind the work I've put in in exchange for the enjoyment I've gotten from ProFSL. You willing to do the same? Sitting on Chat Box soliciting trades does not count!

While your iron fist may be able to dictate in totality the terms of a struggling league, it can not dictate what constitutes "time spent" and what does not.  I do not need to "see whose is bigger" in regards to contribution to ProFSL.  It's funny how people like you throw around words like "guarantee" when speaking about things as subjective as time allocated to an activity.  You speak with such certainty and authority on subjects that can not be quantified.  Those with above average intellect can see through it for what it is.  As for the "time spent and enjoyment received from" question, I can assure you, I have received an IMMENSE amount of pleasure from my time here, and will continue to do so for a long time.  It's tyrants like you who lack ability to grasp the bigger picture that contribute to the negatives, few and far between as they may be...not the site itself.

No HOSS you're dead wrong. I know what I've contributed to this site and sorry HOSS it's all documented if you care to look it up. It absolutely can be quantified.Go back and check DME and Old School leagues, along with trying to resurrect FGM, it's all there. By the way, why didn't you step up to the plate when FGM was flat lining a few months ago?
Tyrant? What a joke! If keeping people from circumventing rules is a tyrant I'll gladly accept that title.

I do things in the real world which prevent me from "stepping up to the plate" to the extent you suggest.  Let me ask you a question, HOSS (because apparently using all caps is more stern or scary).  Why is it, that as a co-commish, your ruling over-rode that of Flash?  Flash had no problems with the trade being posted by one side before the deadline.  I have the PM and time stamp explanation to prove it.  Can you answer that for me, HOSS?  Your contributions to DME and whatever league you mentioned have about as much to do with this situation in FGM as does my hours given to the coaching profession. Just because you do things I don't, that doesn't mean I put any less time into the site and its league.  Look that up, Hoss.  If you are looking for cookies, find your local Girl Scout post.

You choose to bring this to a personal level with the following:
"Wasn't conveniently forgotten, simple mistake, I have him down in my books as a pending re-sign.  Try not to forget how you were let back into the league, on a technicality, Hoss.  Best of luck going forward with a league so near and dear to you, one you've quit already how many times?  You may want to have a few more replacements (perhaps from those yahoo boards you so despise) for season's end...you know, just in case." Hoss is a dead Bonanza character, I really don't appreciate the reference.
FYI- I applied for admittance back into the league when a team was available. Rankosky (the Commish at the time) asked me to take over the Dodgers, I initially refused and, regrettably, later agreed to. Don't believe me, ask him.
This has gone on far too long. Ernie shot this down initially and my only regret is that I didn't send it to "Invalid" at 12:00:01. It was a bullcrap attempt at circumventing the rules. You said yourself that the proposal was made a few days earlier so you had time to get it done.Something you forgot about?...not my problem, rules are rules. Server problems is not an excuse as I had an hour and 45 minute trade discussion with papps that evening from 8:17 until 10:04. Without interruption. Sounds like you need to be pissed at Daniel for not getting back to you, I know how that is.
If you want to stay it's fine with me, but a resignation at the end of the season isn't going to work. We need to find someone, get him up to snuff on the rules and prepared to make intelligent decisions for the future of the Rays. Can't afford to try to squeeze that into a few day once the season is over.

Fair enough, you dont like the Hoss reference, I dont like being accused of attempting nefarious behavior.  I even asked around in chat to see if a single post would suffice, and another long standing member thought it was. Nothing bull crap about it other than your terse handling of it.  I resign effective immediately, let someone else have some fun...

Who was this long standing member?  I was there. I was on from around 6:00 until after midnight. If you recall, I asked you if you were going to resign Adam Jones. Why didn't you ask me?

DW and Sooner both responded to my inquiry in the chat.  If memory serves, you were not (or at least visible in the chat)around when I asked the question.  The fact that DW, as a standing TC member, approved the trade should validate my statements about nobody seeing anything "under the table" going on.  Not to mention the only problem with it a co-commish had was due to a west cosst time stamp, not a failure of execution of protocol.  Feel free to reference the dozens of people who were on that day and the other leagues' handling of the server issue for a template of how both "stringent rules" and "human touch" can blend seamlessly.

As for Adam Jones, if you recall, I answered in the chat room that evening that I was under the impression that I had already extended him.  That recollection should put to bed your earlier assertation that I had "conveniently" left him off my re-sign list.

The only question I have is how can the server be down yet you were able to communicate thru chat? And sorry, I was sitting right here from 6:30 or so until shortly after midnight. I can send you transcripts of conversation I had with papps. It was trade deadline, I was paying attention.
Flash's objection did include the fact that Daniel didn't have time to respond:
"I realize your situation is very unique, but unfortunately your post is after the Trade Deadline--which means it is not a valid transaction.  The MLB trade deadline is 4:00 pm ET--we extend FGM's until 11:59 pm ET because at midnight it becomes August 1st and we all turn into pumpkins.  Your post is time stamped at 12:58 am ET.

I hope you understand why Toronto cannot be given a chance to respond."

Every other league on this site that had a 31 Jul trade deadline git a 1 day extension because of the server issue.  I don't know why this league should be different since it is obviously causing an issue that is leading to one of the more active and legit GMs in this league being almost forced out.
Title: Re: Rays and Blue Jays???
Post by: BHows on August 03, 2015, 12:06:12 AM
If anyone is forcing him out it's himself. Server was down for roughly one hour. I really don't care what every other league do, I'm not bending the rules for one forgetful GM. He's admitted that this proposal was forgotten for a "few days" and that he communicated with other GM's on Chat during the so called outage. I had absolutely no problem carrying on a 1:45 conversation on PM from 8:17 thru 10:02 concerning possible trades.

If I can chip in here, if there were some server issues preventing connection, I believe an extension should had been granted. I was not aware of these issues so I mentioned nothing when the trade was initially dismissed. But I had made the offer to Vols a few days back and told him to post it and pm me if he was ok with it so I could accept. Given that I receive pms to my mailbox I did not log into the site to check and did not realize vols intended to accept

Also think that if the trade was posted before the deadline was over, it should be valid pending approval from the other party, as it is implied that a deal already exists. Either way, I do  not think this matters much as the trade can likely be completed over waivers, but just giving my opinion on the matter, as this seems a bit unnecessary
