San Francisco Giants History :SF:

2021: FGM Champion - 2nd in NL West (133-29)
The :SF: finally climbed to the top of the mountain to claim the  :win: as the FGM World Series Champions.  Entering the playoffs as the #4 seed in the National League, the :SF: eked out a win vs the :LAD: in the Wild Card Round.  Then, in the NLDS, the :SF: scored an upset win against #1 seed :COL:.  In the NLCS, the :SF: then defeated a former champion, the :PHI:, to advance to the FGM World Series.  In the World Series, the :SF: proceeded to dismantle the :MIN2: and become FGM Champions for the first time in their FGM existence. Flash, the :SF: GM, will leave FGM in February as a Champion.

2020: 5th in NL Western Division (32-28)
The 2020 season was spectacularly challenging to MLB and FGM.  With the Covid-19 pandemic, the season was reduced to 60 games:  3 Geographic Divisions of 10 teams, with 10 games each vs. regular division rivals and 4 games each against the remaining 5 teams in each new division.

Injuries were particularly prevalent throughout FGM in 2020.  The Giants had virtually no pitching because of injuries and relied on its RP and hitters.  With the short 60 game campaign, the Giants finished 13th overall amongst all FGM teams.

2019: 2nd in NL West (109-53)
The Giants improved their overall win/loss total, and led the NL West for most of the season, but the Rockies squeaked ahead in the final week to win the division by one game.  The Giants acquired some hometown talent via trade, but fell to the Cubs in the Wild Card series.

2018: 2nd in NL West (102-60)
The Giants managed to again make the playoffs as a Wild Card team, but alas, in the Wild Card matchup with the Padres, the Giants bats went silent and they were eliminated.  Given the injuries to key players throughout the season, the Giants look at 2018 as a respectable finish, but the roster will need to gain some more pitching.  Dereck Rodriguez was a pleasant surprise, but the MadBum injury was a setback and he was never really on top his game.  There will be a lot of new faces on the roster in 2019.

2017: 2nd in NL West (106-56)
The Giants got out to a fast start in 2017, but injuries derailed that early momentum and led to a scramble to remain competitive.  Through a variety of trades and mid-season free agent acquisitions, the team seemed to be back on track, but alas, the injury monster reared its ugly head again and the Giants limped into the playoffs as a Wild Card team--beating out the Brewers during the last week of the season by a single game.  Then, for the second year in a row, the Giants fell victim to a suddenly hot Cubs team and were eliminated from the playoffs in unceremonious fashion.

2016: 1st in NL West (116-41)
The Giants made it to the top of the NL West.  SP Madison Bumgarner led the way with help from a corp of RPs.  The Giants hitters, MI Brandon Crawford and OF Christian Yelich, finished the season strong, but fizzled in the playoffs.  The Giants were defeated by the Cubs in the 1st Round.

2015: 2nd in NL West (55-35)
The Giants finally made the FGM playoffs as a Wild Card  team, narrowly edging out Cardinals on the basis of winning their head-to-head matchups.  As the #5 seed, the Giants' Cinderella season ended in the Wild Card matchup, but laid the foundation for future success.

2014: 3rd in NL West (90-51)
Although the Giants finished 3rd in the NL West again, they had the more victories (90) then ever before.  For the first time as a member of FGM, the Giants were actually in the playoff hunt as they missed out in a bid to be a Wild Card team in the final week of the season.  A variety of trades helped the Giants finally have a lineup that was competitive throughout the season.  The Giants will be looking to improve their roster during the Free Agency period, even with it's limited budget.

2013: 3rd in NL West (65-76)
The Giants fell back in the standings, finishing with 10 less wins for a 3rd place finish in the NL West.  With a group of SPs that included Madison Baumgarner, Wade Miley and Ervin Santana, the Giants just didn't have a potent enough everyday line-up to compete in their division. The Giants did bid good-bye to former ace Tim Lincecum to free up money for future free agents.  Carlos Gomez was the only bonafide hitter in the lineup, although Juan Uribe was a pleasant surprise.  The Giants have nowhere to go but up and they hope to garner some players in the off-season trade market and free agent auction.

2012: 2nd in NL West (75-87)
Second place in the division after being a bottom feeder should be a success, but fans need to take their blinders off and look at how bad the non-Dodgers teams were in the division.  All of the Giants' infielders should be in AAA.  The team managed to put together a good rotation with Wade Miley being a bright young spot.  San Francisco's season should be viewed as a successful rebuilding year as they won 10 more games than the previous season and should be a team contending for .500 the next year.

2011: 5th in NL West (65-97)
San Francisco's demise during FGM is not due to the scoring system, but the complete lack of offense the team has.  Unlike the real-life team which could be inspired by Giant Panda Pablo Sandoval or Aubrey Huff, this team has little to work with behind the plate.  Pitching giants like Lincecum, Cain, and Wilson can only get this team so far.  The one plus about the 2011 campaign is that "Flash" was able to put San Francisco in a strong financial position with nearly $30m in off-season cap space.

2010: 3rd in NL West (77-85)
The Giants landed a capable GM by hiring Kris Doughery as their GM in October 2009.  He quickly went to work by making a couple trades that landed the Giants several players that could contribute in 2010.  Kris ended up resigning that June due to other constraints.  Christopher Pappalardo took over a month before the trade deadline.  The Giants were able to build a stronger pitching staff than what the real-life Giants had while dumping Barry Zito.  Chris would go to to his dream job in Philadelphia while a new GM would step up to the plate at the end of the season.

2009: 4th in NL West (80-82)
Sans the Diamondbacks being in the way, the Giants compared closely to the real life team of 2009.  The original GM, Mr. Carpenter, did little to improve the team's hope of making the postseason now or in the future.

Management
Ernesto Quiroz (Flash) [9/27/10 - 2/10/22]
Christopher Pappalardo (papps) [6/30/10 - 9/26/10]
Kris Doughery (KDoc09) [10/22/09 - 6/18/10]
Vincent Carpenter (sirvlciv) [7/1/09 - 10/2/09]
