Adopt new extension rules?

The discussion surrounding this topic has been great with lots of great ideas bouncing around.  Here's what the change looks like:

• Contract extensions are based on looking up the player's fantasy points in both the current season and the prior season.  The higher of these two values is multiplied by a static factor of $25K.  The result is the players' extension value.  Contract length follows the same minimum/maximum rules that currently exist.
• Players may no longer be extended during the season - extensions are only allowed during the Spring 'Extension Period' which is normally a 3 month period from when the NHL regular season ends in April until the entry draft is complete in June.  The exact time-frame will be announced annually. 
• The salary cap will increase by $8m to a total of $95m.  This is to accommodate the increased cost of contracts with the addition of Blocked Shots
• Extensions under the old rules are allowed until 2019 puck drop (Oct 1st?)

Blocked shots get added for next year, but they'll be added to the stats for extension renewals starting in the 2020 extension period.  So we'll start paying for the stats in April, and the stat will be added for the 20/21 season.

Extensions under the old rules are allowed until 2019 puck drop (Oct 1st?) <- adding that to my post above to make it more clear.

just to be clear block shots wont be added until next year (20/21) but we will add the points at the end of this year for the extensions? are we going to have to add it for the last 2 years for extensions? so why dont we add the block shots this year?

Yes - all players are $25k per point.  Goalies see an increase similar to Wingers in this model.

When we do extensions we'll be looking at 2 years of stats that include BS.  That's not mutually exclusive with inserting the stat now or later.  We agreed to wait a year to add the stat to let teams adjust.  Adding it now would cause too much roster turmoil too soon.

Also this:

Will you be refreshing the contract min/max years for extensions? Under the old system only the top 35% of players (675 player base) were eligible to be extended for 4 or more years. At $25k per point 51% of the league will now be eligible for a long contract extension. Bumping the salary brackets up by $1m would keep us where we were. ie. $7.5m+ for 5 year contracts, $6m to $7.4m for 4 or 5 years etc.

Should happen alongside the extension changes.  It's something that I forgot about, but should be fairly inconsequential to the overall plan.
