Yes but that is how it works in NHL that is why you don't ever see many high salary players sent to minors because they don't want to run the risk of their players being poached. I am currently weighing the possibility of a waiver free period in the off-season, so this would solve the problem of skilled players in the minors. That is cap permitting as well and therefore if a player is traded now or during that period they could be called up during that period for that team.

Okay that would be very nice (waiver free period), but back onto the current waiver situation, unlike the NHL this is an 18 team league with the same amount of elite players and same CAP as the teams in real life, so there are going to be a lot more circumstances with waivers then what would normally be in the real world. Just putting in my two cents :) Still enjoying my time here.

Any thoughts on a league wide CAP of 65-75 mil

To put it simply. Agree or disagree. I don't like to have to make a trade just to stay under cap space year in and year out. I put my team together and I like my team a lot. I understand having to maybe trade away 2-3 or even letting them go to FA if a deal can't be done, but trading away most of a team that I built is not satisfying at all, especially with the extention $$ amounts being so high and out of wack.

Sure staying under the cap is a challenge, but honestly unrealistic unless you have a completely different core of players every single year. Just take a look at your cap situation right now, look at the extensions you will need to sign next year, and you will see how many players you WON'T be able to afford unless you trade 3/4 of them or just simply let them go to FA at years end. Everyone has an opinion, commish has the final say, this is my opinion on the topic. Thanks for reading :)

I am not looking forward to letting my core go I was thinking about this too if we did it like the NHL our cap would be around 90 million (30 teams x 59.4 million cap=1.782 billion divide that by the 18 teams in our pool would = 99 million) that is how the NHL does it. its based on the revenue brought in by the league divided by the amount of teams. I don't think we need to go up that high because that would be ridiculous but I do feel like we should have the cap somewhere between 5-8 million more then the real NHL cap. thats my opinion.

I like the cap the way it is. Maybe we can have the highest paid player on your roster not count towards the cap?
What do you guys think?

I like the way the contract extensions and salary cap is currently at, as these rules add more drama to the development of your team. Sure, its gonna stink to trade or lose valuable pieces of your team, but that is what makes this league interesting to me... That IS the drama.

I wouldn't mind if the cap goes up every season, but I don't see how a 5 to 10M upgrade is gonna make this just as challenging as it is now... Just be smarter in your spending and know what your team needs in the long run (which I think is terrible that we got rid of 1 year contracts... I don't want to sign all of my players to 2 year deals. Some are just rentals.)

1 year contracts will be returned next season.

My first reaction after the draft was, Holy Crap I am over the cap. When I checked the rosters at least 3/4 were over the cap. Now you have to adjust by league rules. Great players are sent to the minors because no one can afford them. Managers original vision of their team have to be rethought. My opinion is, over time every team will adjust there roster to meet the cap. For the first few years the teams that drafted wisely checking salary and contract lengths will have the advantage. But the astute managers will catch up eventually. The question is, will the league be able to last, during this breaking in period.

I think increasing cap will just make it harder to stay under the roster limit of 25. It is just the challenge of maintaining a core and filling it with role players or young talent. Can't change extensions because I wouldn't know where to start and they were stolen from the other NHL league here and seems to work well there. I think the off-season free agency will be most interesting because teams will not be handing out "huge" contracts with long length. We will see some of these things will pan out in the off-season.

I agree with an increased cap, regardless of the FA situation.  Reason being - we're mirroring the NHL cap, which is cool - but we're not mirroring the # of NHL teams, so it's not working as intended.  We're running just over half the number of teams of the NHL, with much smaller rosters due to the cap size and we're managing to extremely tight margins without any IR relief (as we've discussed in another thread).  My cap in an ESPN league with 16 teams is 89 mil, and while that sounds high we use different contract rules that make players more expensive over time (base contract + performance each year).  I feel that the cap should be adjusted to what it would be if the NHL ran the same size league we do.  No idea what the math is on that, but I'm guessing it would add another 18-20 mil or so of cap space.

I am not in favor of increasing the cap other than minor inflation increases that mirror the NHL.

We drafted our rosters with the 59m cap in mind, and signed extensions based on this.  This is not a rule
that can be changed at this point without blowing it up and starting over.  If you increase by 20 or 30 mil
that would change the approach to how we set up our teams.

I know some teams got stuck because of the auto draft, as the computer didn't pay attention to cap
hits when drafting, just best available player.  But I think most of us who did attend the draft, drafted
with the 59m cap in mind.
