This is how Franchise NHL's new play-off format will work:

16 TEAMS QUALIFY
* 16-out-of-30 teams qualify for play-offs
* 8 teams from Western Conference (Pacific + Central Divisions)
* 8 teams from Eastern Conference (Atlantic + Metropolitan Divisions)
* Top 6 seeds per Conference come from Top 3 teams in each Division
* Remaining 2 seeds per Conference come from highest placing regular season finishers via points (2 from each West, 2 from East) regardless of Division

FNHL Standings Tie-breakers:
1. Best division record for entire season
2. Head-to-head record vs. team(s) tied with
3. Most fantasy points for entire season (skaters and goalie combined, not actual NHL points but fantasy points based on FNHL setup "Full Fantasy Team" stats)

:STL-NHL:  Blues are riding a 12 week winning streak... there are 21 wks to the Regular Season
:CLS:  Blue Jackets are on an 8 week win streak.
:OTT:  Franchise NHL President's Trophy winner Senators are on a 7 week Undefeated streak (6 wins plus a surprising tie)

:WIN:  Jets climb into 2nd place in the Central Division pushing former top seed in the Western Conference  :CHI-NHL: down to 3rd place.

Jets have been quietly moving up yhe standings all season.

:CLS:  Blue Jackets have overtaken the :NYI:  Islanders for 1st place in the Metropolitan Division. That's the good news. Now the Jackets get to face high scoring Eastern Wildcard #1 :BOS-NHL: Bruins from the tough Atlantic Division.

:LAK:  Kings have overtaken incumbant :SJ: for 2nd place in the Pacific Division. Sharks move down to 3rd after losing to LA in the final week of the Regular Season but get an immediate rematch in Round 1 of the Playoffs.

:ANA:  Ducks have held on to finish 1st in the Pacific Division. Anaheim ownership spent 2012-13 rebuilding and enduring numerous losing weeks especially without an active goalie on their roster. Now the have their hands full matched up against Western Wildcard #1 :MIN-NHL:  Wild who challenged for 1st in the West and in the Central Division all season.

2nd place Atlantic Division :FLO:  Panthers will play 3rd place :DET-NHL: in a rematch of their Week 20 game in which Florida edged Detroit after the Wings held the lead until the final day of the week. Goaltending is sure to decide this Round 1 matchup.

It helps that the Flames added several decent goalies after playing most of the season without a starter just after the new owner bought the team in January. :thumbsup:

It's a whole new season boys.
Flames are looking to go deep into the postseason. :win:

The toughest part about pointing the Los Angeles franchise in the right direction was filling out the roster with players from a bare Free Agent pool. That said there was no doubt in my mind the Kings could climb in the standings.

Good-luck to the :SJ: San Jose Sharks franchise. May the best team move on. :toast:

Luongo has been questionable and with his move from the Canucks to the Panthers his outings are even scarier these days.  :o

Ottawa management would be foolish to under estimate Toronto's fire power.  Afterall Thunderblade's team had my Sens over a barrel all of Week 20 until we came from behind on Sunday to squeeze by Toronto by all of one glorious point.

a lot of teams have had their goalie situation messed around with by the NHL deadline deals.
:OTT: Holtby in timeshare with Halak
:FLO: Luongo moved from a bad team to an even worse team
:MIN-NHL: Hiller lost the backup in Anaheim pushing him in Fasth
:CLG: Bryzgalov benefits from moving to a powerhouse of a team in Minny
:ANA: Scrivens kinda gets the Goalie 1A tag in Edmonton after they traded Ilya to the Wild

some had problems with their goaltending just before the start of the Winter Olympic break and others because of the Olympics:
:STL-NHL: Bishop hurt just before the Olympics and doesn't look the same since NHL resumed its regular season
:CHI-NHL: Price hurt during Olympics
:DET-NHL: Howard and Nabby both either hurt or played poorly all year

I thought I could add Anders Lee to one of the avail franchises but when your Wings pursued him, I had to block your franchise from adding yet another young prospect to your roster... Wings are stacked for the future as it is :thumbsup:

Was a tense match-up for my Panthers all week. Every night it seemed like you could plug in another starting goalie. I held my breath all week until the "minutes to play" flashed Zero for your :DET-NHL:!

Both teams were a bit shorthanded due to goalie injuries and Habs' decision to play Tokarski yesterday was the key contributor to the match-up's result. Either Price or Budaj in net and you would've won. So I was definitely the lucky one this time around.

I cant believe my Calgary investment turned up nothing!

Sure we got knocked out by the 2nd best team in the league but what the hell is up with none of my goalies playing over the weekend? That was stupid bad luck!  >:(

Flames are feeling a little burned b the result of our rd1 matchup! :soapbox: But a final word from Calgary to St.Lu, way to go man! You built yourself a rock solid team there buddy!

Ottawa management is pleased with the team's effort in Round 1.

A hard fought week by both teams and we tip our hat :toth: to our opponent the Toronto Maple Leafs :TOR-NHL: for their fine season. They have a classy owner whom we have the utmost respect for.

We feel fortunate to be moving onto Round 2.
