Last week was an exciting week of breaking trade news and some ongoing rumors for the Braves. Atlanta GM, Jeff Nelson was somehow excited by the fact several major league pieces were moved including All stars Ozuna, Blackmon, and Martin. "I believe we got more balanced and freed up current and future salary. We will miss the production of some of these individuals, but our team is in a more sustainable state and ready to compete." As a prestigious writer I should keep my opinions to myself - but what a crock of $H!+.

In other news...some teams actually made themselves better by signing free agents. Here are the most notable;
AJ Pollock; CHIC 5 YRS @ 16M annually - Great signing by the cubs if AJ can stay healthy and stay in a scoring offense. 16M is not bad compared to some of the other contracts that have been shelled out this off season.
Curtis Granderson; TOR 5YRS @ 18M annually - I don't know what's worse - 18 MILLION DOLLARS or 5 YEARS. You put them together and it is an albatross that will hurt the franchise for years to come!
Ben Revere; TOR 4 YRS @ 6M annually - Crack is whack!
Matt Kemp; MIL 5 YRS @ 8.4M annually - I really like Matt Kemp so it makes this statement all more realistic. 5 years for a guy that may not have a full time job this year is a gamble. Gamble is actually nice in this case.
Ervin Santana; MIL 3 YRS @ 10M annually - Immediately after signing this contract, Ervin underwent surgery on his finger; nuf' said?!?!?!

Cespe is still out there as a FA...can Atlanta bring him in? Also, some big name pitchers are unsigned...should be an interesting week 4!

Feel free to leave your comments and questions below. Leave current FA discussions off the board or you will be trolled...all in good fun though!

The Atlanta Herald is breaking news on another huge move by the Braves;

Brewers Trade
Odebul Herrera (1.25M; arb through ‘20)
Blake Snell (480k; arb through ‘21)
Chi chi Gonzales (537k; arb through ‘20)
Mitch Garver (400k; arb through ‘23)
Sean Murphy (spec)
Josh Naylor (spec)

Braves Trade
Charlie Blackmon (7.3M; arb through ‘19)
Russell Martin (9.5M through ‘19)
Adam Ottovino (2.1M ‘18)
1M in ‘18 Compensation toward blackmon’s salary

Braves have three pronged approach to this move; clears $15M of cap, builds the farm, more sustainable assets post ‘19. Great deal for both clubs.

Armchair Fantasy Baseball: Completed Transactions / Rockies / Braves trade
« on: February 04, 2018, 01:07:32 AM »
Braves trade away;
Marcell Ozuna (3.5M ‘18, arb through ‘20)
Tyler Clippard (3M ‘18)

Rockies trade away;
Justin Verlander (5M through ‘19)
Jose Martinez (440k ‘18, arb through ‘22)

Braves reluctantly trade away Ozuna who is controllable through 2020. Finances does play a role in this with him getting on the expensive side starting next year. Clippard is a huge question mark considering his year last year and still being a FA. I figure to trade while I can.

Pretty even return in my opinion. Verlander hopefully will stay motivated and dial up the wins this year. JoMart’s control is the key to the Braves future success.

Great trade for both sides.

Armchair Fantasy Baseball: Archives / SPEC TROLLING
« on: January 31, 2018, 08:01:44 PM »
Hi all,

I want to take a minute to vocalize my opinion about PC offers and how we go about signing FA specs. I'm pretty frustrated that I can put in time and energy researching guys, cross checking to ensure no other team has these guys on their rosters (for the sake of our commish) and posting, just to be outbid by teams who have done no research besides clicking on my posted link.  AKA SPEC TROLLING. This is complete garbage!!! We need to either find a way to make these offers in private or another alternative to stop this behavior.

For those of you who are doing real research and posting your own guys, I give you mad props! We all have our methods but this process is never quick and easy. I hate seeing teams win/steal future studs without putting in the work!

Please feel free to comment below. I will be happy to administer any changes to this process the league and commish agree to!
-Jeff aka PISSED!!!

  • Daddy: If i have 10 top level AA prospects each in the top 10 of the franchise vs one middle of the road pitcher like Cal Quantrill (or pick a guy) which one of those two packages are more valuable?

  • dbreer23: Take two to tango, though. Most owners with adequate or surplus SP aren't interested in prospects as they're trying to win now.

  • Daddy: Agreed. But most does not equal all.

  • Braves155: My issue in LIVE currently is having Strider/Alcantara/Giolito all on the long shelf, so I am more retooling than rebuilding
    May 05, 2024, 02:46:48 PM
  • Daddy: Also agreed. Top quality pitching probably means not much depth. A few injuries can challenge you. Pitching other than top end pitching has been devalued in fantasy. Everyone wants the stud.

  • Daddy: I here to tell you that ALL major league pitching is good pitching. A great hitter beats a terrible pitcher just 3 out of 10 times. Which means the worst pitchers > the greatest hitters.

  • Brent: Greg Maddux had the best outlook.  He viewed himself as tye dealer/house and you had to beat him.  Just like in the casino, the house nearly always wins.

  • Brent: He had that view b/c of his father who was a blackjack dealer in Vegas.
    May 05, 2024, 04:35:28 PM
  • Daddy: Yes @Brent!! That is it exactly. Pitching is the house & it always wins in the end.

  • Daddy: There shouldn't be many innings available in FA in dynasty fantasy leagues IMO. Thats guaranteed money! To hell with High A ball.

  • Braves155: The problem with the minors is not the system as a whole, it is some Farm Systems are more 'elite' at being able to produce talent than others. If you look across MLB teams you can pretty easily tell the great systems from the weaker systems and talent development
    May 05, 2024, 05:57:14 PM
  • Braves155: With regard to pitching in the Minors...there is  method to the madness. It is all about what you make of it tho. I agree that it can seem certain type arms in the minors are a dime a dozen

  • Daddy: Mr Braves you are my guy. There isnt anything wrong with minor league studs or flops. I get it in REAL baseball.
    May 05, 2024, 06:20:28 PM
  • Daddy: This is fantasy baseball. We dont generate revenue selling prospects and merchandising. Our top farms dont get a write up in Sports Illustrated.
    May 05, 2024, 06:22:29 PM
  • Daddy: Load up on MLB guys, then near MLB guys, and only then is the quality of your prospects matter. Ya dig ;)
