2013/2014 Salary Cap Announcement
« on: June 29, 2012, 03:20:02 PM »
The 13/14 salary cap will be increased to $82.8m.  Plan accordingly!

Extension prices for 13/14 will be updated to reflect current player values after the NHL season begins.

We'll have to discuss it when the time comes.  I haven't been keeping up with the labor talks.  If they do enact a drastic decrease do you think it will be effective for 13/14?

I think any kind of drastic decrease should be accompanied by a salary rollback. We could do it percentage wise, it should be easier to scale back current contracts and extension values by a standard %.

It might not even have to by as large as the NHL rollbacks considered most teams had like 15-20m to spend this FA period.

i think it will decrease effective this year is what the NHL is pushing for.  I would just adjust the extension as per the cap like we have been.

It just may end up in a weak FA next season meaning low bids on some players.  If the cap decrease affected more than half the league than it maybe necessary to give everyone the option of a free buyout on a player.  I am sure everyone has at least one butthead on their team they would like to get rid of.

My butthead = Tim Thomas.  But I would use more derogatory words to describe him.

Let's see what happens.  If the decrease wouldn't put anyone in the red immediately I'm inclined to adjust accordingly and let our market even out over time.  If not we can talk about free drops to balance things out.

It wouldn't be possible to do what the actual NHL is planning on doing, which is basically making the players pay more of their wages into the league's escrow to reduce their cap hit.

So, a  % salary rollback and amnesty buyout might make sense for us free spending teams.

I'll just keep hoping they decide everyone is making enough money and play hockey like they have been, well maybe with more penalties being called.

yeah not much sense in guessing whats going to happen.  I am more inclined to just let it buck as well and teams can make their necessary adjustments.  worse case it would probably level the league out a bit to make things more competitive.

leave it the same!!! Roll it back I have soo much cap space  just kiddin

I am sure we will see a drop but wait and see what the number will be then adjust accordingly. It would be very unfair to a lot of GM who planned this seassonj on 1 huge cap number only to see it drop by 20M
