Title: Proposed rule change/discuson
Post by: Daddy on October 14, 2017, 03:08:55 PM
FNHL proclaims to follow the NHL model as close as possible to provide the most realistic fantasy experience as a full 31 team league.

In my opinion it picks and chooses what aspects are true to life. For example we follow the true salary cap of the NHL but our active roster is 7 spots deeper making us actually work with less cap. Having a $200k minimum contract offset that, however that will soon change.

That's just one aspect.

Proposal #1

Being able to sign players to milr contracts as FA's or 2 way contracts that allow players to be placed in the milr just as they are in real life by real NHL teams via draft & FA.

Currently the only way to place a player in the minors is to draft him. Unlike the real NHL we have currently adopted a rule allowing drafted players to contribute to scoring without any contract at all.

This rule was adopted after the league was 7 years old and some owners adopted strategies under the old format putting them at a disadvantage in a league with money at stake.

The current system seems to have been created to make draft picks more valuable if I understand the past discussions. I'd say that's a good thing for a deep dynasty league such as FNHL.

Moving Free Agents up and down would only seem to de-value draft picks because the FA would take up the space of a drafted player.

I think the system of allowing teams to call up a spec is terrific for maintaining MiLR balance, budget flexibility (minor league player does not carry a cap hit) and creating strong value in Draft picks. All that is important in a dynasty league IMHO.
