7f 3d 1g :WAS-NHL:
1. Nicklas Backstrom, $6.0m (2014-2018)
2. Mikael Granlund, $2.9m (2016-2019)
3. Aleksander Barkov, $4.3m (2016-2020-FP-5.7:WAS-NHL3:)
4. Alex Ovechkin, $7.2m (2013-2018-FP-9.5:WAS-NHL3:)
5. Valeri Nichushkin, $2.0m (2015-2018)
6. Tyler Toffoli, $6.5m (2016-2020)
7. Nail Yakupov, $1.5m (2016-2018)

1. Ryan Suter, $5.7m (2014-2018)
2. Nathan Beaulieu, $2.5m (2016-2019)
3. Oliver Ekman-Larsson, $7.0m (2016-2020)

1. Kari Lehtonen, $9.7m (2015-2020)

Kapanen appears to be a casualty here, but we are long ways away and a lot can change. Not even sure I protect a G to be honest.  My D positions are all locks with no competition.  Byron has been surprisingly amazing this year, could beat out Yak for that final spot.

Thought Kapanen would be protected with less than 2yr experience but seems your Caps activated his eligibility in 2014 so this is his 3rd yr in FNHL.

Yes, this man is a fan of strategy when it comes to these entry level contracts. I don't think skaters in round 1 are worth the cost initially. After round 1 and Goalies are golden with those contracts, but not so much 1st round picks. Its worked out in some cases, but I appear to get burnt with Kap. He should of never been called up. Can't win them all  :toast:

Are franchised players automatically protected? I couldn't tell if that was the case, but you can't even trade those players.

Franchise Players need to be protected if you want to keep them.

:EDM: List

1. Jonathan Toews, $6.4m (2014-2018)
2. Brayden Schenn, $6.9m (2016-2020)
3. Nick Foligno, $4.5m (2016-2019)
4. Duncan Keith, $5.5m (2010-2018)
5. Bo Horvat, $2.1m (2016-2019)
6. Sam Reinhart, $2.1m (2016-2019-EL-FP-2.7 :EDM:)
7. Dmitry Orlov, $1.5m (2015-2018)
8. Nikita Zadorov, $1.5m (2015-2018)

1. Anton Forsberg, $3.5m (2016-2019)

After some research, Edmonton has found that Reinhart, Horvat and Zadorov were all called up in 2014-2015 season and must be protected. We still have a solid exempt list.

Exempt:

Esa Lindell, $0.5m (2016-2019-EL)
Nikita Soshnikov, $0.2m (2016-2018)
Matthew Tkachuk, $2.5m (2016-2018-EL)
Jack Eichel, $2.3m (2015-2018-EL-FP-3.0 :EDM:)
Brett Ritchie, $0.8m (2015-2018-EL)

Got some questions to be answered.
1) what happens to players that are left off rosters do they go back to original owners if not taken in draft?
2) is vegas required to take certain amount of players from each team so not one team loses alot of players?
3) can a team pull back a player if a player gets taken.
4) if vegas takes a player from sharks can he trade that player to another team like the wild for example if the wild likes a certain player?
Just asking?

I'll answer these best as possible, But PPG and PR will chime in.

1. You only lose players if they get drafted by Vegas
2. No, They can take whoever they want, as long as they are not protected.
3. No, you have to protect players before the draft.
4. After the draft, Vegas can do as they please, just like the other 30 teams. They can't trade with a team that has the same owner. That is the only restriction, but it is in place right now. Like I can't trade with Montreal, even though I don't run them. Conflict of interest.

I will add a few questions, mostly about timing:

Will there be a grace period between the finals and the deadline to protect players ? I found that trading opens back up.
