We have some interesting movement with the first month of the season in the books. :CHC: (+4) :LAD: (+5) :BAL: (+7) are the biggest movers compared to preseason projections. With :NYY: (-4) :NYM: (-8) :SEA: (-8) seriously underperforming preseason expectations.

1   :DET:   Detroit Tigers   1
2   :CHC:   Chicago Cubs   4

Re: 2022 Power Rankings
In the power rankings there wasn't as much movement as the actual season standings might suggest. As the top 3 teams from last month remain the same. In spite of having the best record in Armchair so far this season :NYY: (-1) actually slide down a spot to #5 in the rankings. With :MIN: (3) and :MIL: (2) making the biggest gains in the top 10.

May Power Ranking

1   :DET:   Detroit Tigers   0
2   :CHC:   Chicago Cubs   0
3   :SF:   San Francisco Giants   0
4   :MIL:   Milwaukee Brewers   2
5   :NYY:   New York Yankees   -1
6   :LAA:   Los Angeles Angels   -1
7   :MIN:   Minnesota Twins   3
8   :LAD:   Los Angeles Dodgers   -1
9   :KC:   Kansas City Royals   0
10   :ATL:   Atlanta Braves   -2
11   :ARZ:   Arizona Diamondbacks   0
12   :TOR:   Toronto Blue Jays   4
13   :BAL:   Baltimore Orioles   0
14   :STL:   St. Louis Cardinals   0
15   :PIT:   Pittsburgh Pirates   -3
16   :NYM:   New York Mets   -1
17   :WAS:   Washington Nationals   1
18   :BOS:   Boston Red Sox   -1
19   :TB:   Tampa Bay Rays   0
20   :CHW:   Chicago White Sox   0
21   :OAK:   Oakland Athletics   0
22   :CIN:   Cincinnati Reds   0
23   :COL:   Colorado Rockies   0
24   :MIA:   Miami Marlins   0
25   :HOU:   Houston Astros   0
26   :SEA:   Seattle Mariners   1
27   :PHI:   Philadelphia Phillies   3
28   :TEX:   Texas Rangers   -2
29   :SD:   San Diego Padres   -1
30   :CLE:   Cleveland Indians   -1

Some of the differences between the power rankings and the actual standings is explained by the ease of schedule for May. With :MIL: going from the 6th easiest schedule in April (5,777) to the easiest schedule of May. Despite the better performance and easier schedule :MIL: has only gained two games on :CHC: who had the second easiest schedule of May. :NYY: is a fascinating case as they had only the 4th easiest schedule of May and moved down in the Power Rankings yet shot up to the best record in Armchair.

May East of Schedule

1   :MIL:   Milwaukee Brewers   7,795.25
2   :CHC:   Chicago Cubs   7,566.33
3   :MIN:   Minnesota Twins   6,634.56
4   :NYY:   New York Yankees   5,997.27
5   :DET:   Detroit Tigers   5,975.07
6   :SF:   San Francisco Giants   5,943.81
7   :LAA:   Los Angeles Angels   4,362.91
8   :ARZ:   Arizona Diamondbacks   3,472.48
9   :LAD:   Los Angeles Dodgers   3,193.75
10   :TOR:   Toronto Blue Jays   3,043.50
11   :KC:   Kansas City Royals   2,837.55
12   :WAS:   Washington Nationals   1,878.84
13   :NYM:   New York Mets   1,792.91
14   :STL:   St. Louis Cardinals   1,408.24
15   :PIT:   Pittsburgh Pirates   1,072.34
16   :ATL:   Atlanta Braves   714.00
17   :BAL:   Baltimore Orioles   671.48
18   :BOS:   Boston Red Sox   -2,289.98
19   :CHW:   Chicago White Sox   -2,850.99
20   :TB:   Tampa Bay Rays   -3,453.21
21   :OAK:   Oakland Athletics   -3,538.60
22   :PHI:   Philadelphia Phillies   -3,841.15

Re: 2022 Power Rankings
« Reply #3 on: July 04, 2022, 01:43:34 AM »
Looking at the Power Rankings the top tier of Armchair continues to hold steady with :DET: :CHC: and :SF:. Among the division leaders and playoff contenders there is some jostling for position with the :TOR: making a run for a postseason spot just before the trade deadline. While the :NYM: have made a huge jump to put themselves back in contention. It comes as no surprise that :MIN: has taken the biggest tumble down the rankings giving the ground they've lost in the standings.

June Power Ranking

1   :DET:   Detroit Tigers   0
2   :CHC:   Chicago Cubs   0
3   :SF:   San Francisco Giants   0
4   :NYY:   New York Yankees   1
5   :MIL:   Milwaukee Brewers   -1
6   :LAA:   Los Angeles Angels   0
7   :LAD:   Los Angeles Dodgers   1
8   :ARZ:   Arizona Diamondbacks   3
9   :NYM:   New York Mets   7

10   :KC:   Kansas City Royals   -1
11   :ATL:   Atlanta Braves   -1
12   :MIN:   Minnesota Twins   -5
13   :TOR:   Toronto Blue Jays   -1
14   :BAL:   Baltimore Orioles   -1
15   :STL:   St. Louis Cardinals   -1
16   :PIT:   Pittsburgh Pirates   -1
17   :WAS:   Washington Nationals   0
18   :BOS:   Boston Red Sox   0
19   :TB:   Tampa Bay Rays   0
20   :CHW:   Chicago White Sox   0
21   :OAK:   Oakland Athletics   0
22   :CIN:   Cincinnati Reds   0
23   :SEA:   Seattle Mariners   3
24   :HOU:   Houston Astros   1
25   :COL:   Colorado Rockies   -2
26   :MIA:   Miami Marlins   -2
27   :SD:   San Diego Padres   2
28   :TEX:   Texas Rangers   0
29   :PHI:   Philadelphia Phillies   -2
30   :CLE:   Cleveland Indians   0

Looking at ease of schedule for June it comes as no surprise that the top teams continued to have the easier schedule. With the :NYM: having the 5th easiest schedule of the month, helping explain their shot  up the power rankings.

June Ease of Schedule

1   :CHC:   Chicago Cubs   14540.652
2   :DET:   Detroit Tigers   12840.617

A shake up atop the power rankings as :CHC: takes over the top spot for the first time this season. :NYY: continues its steady march up back up the rankings to 2nd, a step off their preseason projections. :SF: falls out of the top 3 for the first time this season while :MIN: makes the biggest jump back into the top 8 after a rough June. :KC: continues its slow slide from a season high 9th, however still finds itself in contention.
