Florida Panthers History & Management
« Reply #3 on: July 17, 2012, 11:44:55 PM »
Florida Panthers History & Management :FLO:

2014-15:
12th Overall (Lost Round 2 of Play-offs)
3rd in Southeast Division; 5th in Eastern Conference (11-11)

2013-14:
3rd Overall (Lost Conference Finals of Play-offs)
2nd in Southeast Division; 2nd in Eastern Conference (15-6)

2012-13:
11th Overall (Lost Round 1 of Play-offs)
1st in Southeast Division; 2nd in Eastern Conference (7-2)

After leading the Eastern Conference for almost all of the strike shortened season, Florida fell to 2nd place in the Eastern Conference at the conclusion of the final week of the regular season losing a Standings tie-break to :OTT: (having lost their Head-to-Head match-up). Key acquisitions made prior to the start of the 2012-13 season included Jamie Benn (trade with :OTT:), Luke Schenn (trade with :TOR-NHL:), Pascal Dupuis (trade with :CHI-NHL:), and free agent signings (in-season) of Alex Killorn (C/LW) + Eric Gryba (D) helped the Panthers stay competitive. Another trade that was meant to help the team's play-off drive ended up costing Florida in the post-season as Roberto Luongo (acquired from :VAN: for Marc-Andre Fleury) did not start any games in the play-offs and contributed to the team's early exit losing to :WIN: in Round 1 of the 2012-13 Play-offs.

2011-12:
Stanley Cup Finalist / 2nd Overall
1st in Southeast Division; 1st in Eastern Conference (18-4)

First year GM, PigsRule led Florida to the Cup Finals losing to :MIN-NHL:. The turnaround of the crippled Panthers franchise which lost Vokoun to free agency, dealt away franchise mainstays Weiss, Booth and Wideman plusbeing saddled with Dipietro's large and lengthy contract was possible due to numerous key deals which brought in new core players to build around such as Franzen, Michalek (eventually dealt to :EDM: for Hartnell), Phaneuf and Fleury. Key 2011 free agent signings such as McGinn, C.Smith, I.White, Roloson and Budaj also boosted the team's performance during the season. In the Post-Season, the :FLO: defeated :NYI: (Rd1), :BOS-NHL: (Rd2), :TBL: (Semi-Finals) eventually bowing to :MIN-NHL: in the Stanely Cup Finals. Florida's 2011-12 results proved a team could be re-built in one season.

2010-11: 8th Overall (Round 1 Playoff loss to 4th seed :TOR-NHL:)
2nd Southeast Division; 5th Eastern Conference (record ???)

  • Daddy: If i have 10 top level AA prospects each in the top 10 of the franchise vs one middle of the road pitcher like Cal Quantrill (or pick a guy) which one of those two packages are more valuable?
  • Daddy: If you think its the AA guys send me a pm.
  • Daddy: Also... Ive got a nice private island full of beautiful women to sell you. Pay me upfront and i will send you its coordinates. We call it the Virgin Daddy Islands. $5k reserves it for your future.
  • dbreer23: Take two to tango, though. Most owners with adequate or surplus SP aren't interested in prospects as they're trying to win now.
  • Daddy: Agreed. But most does not equal all.
  • Braves155: My issue in LIVE currently is having Strider/Alcantara/Giolito all on the long shelf, so I am more retooling than rebuilding
    Today at 02:46:48 PM
  • Daddy: Also agreed. Top quality pitching probably means not much depth. A few injuries can challenge you. Pitching other than top end pitching has been devalued in fantasy. Everyone wants the stud.
  • Braves155: But I myself could use some time on a nudie island with some hot women
    Today at 02:49:45 PM
  • Daddy: I here to tell you that ALL major league pitching is good pitching. A great hitter beats a terrible pitcher just 3 out of 10 times. Which means the worst pitchers > the greatest hitters.
  • STLBlues91: Ill be around the rest of the day for any talks
    Today at 03:25:59 PM
  • Brent: Greg Maddux had the best outlook.  He viewed himself as tye dealer/house and you had to beat him.  Just like in the casino, the house nearly always wins.
  • Brent: He had that view b/c of his father who was a blackjack dealer in Vegas.
  • Daddy: Yes @Brent!! That is it exactly. Pitching is the house & it always wins in the end.
  • Daddy: There shouldn't be many innings available in FA in dynasty fantasy leagues IMO. Thats guaranteed money! To hell with High A ball.
  • Daddy: Until someone starts a minor league baseball fantasy game or option. Maybe we can petition fantrax? I just dont think they will care for that.
  • Daddy: Neither should we (so much). Every league i see is MLB.

  • Braves155: The problem with the minors is not the system as a whole, it is some Farm Systems are more 'elite' at being able to produce talent than others. If you look across MLB teams you can pretty easily tell the great systems from the weaker systems and talent development
    Today at 05:57:14 PM
  • Braves155: With regard to pitching in the Minors...there is  method to the madness. It is all about what you make of it tho. I agree that it can seem certain type arms in the minors are a dime a dozen
