2013 Power Rankings
« on: May 06, 2013, 01:59:43 PM »
1) :MIL: Milwaukee Brewers  (30-5) - Most points scored and currently leading the league with the best record.
2) :OAK: Oakland Athletics  (27-8) - Defending Champs have scored the 3rd most points. Can they defend their crown in 2013?
3) :LAD: Los Angeles Dodgers  (29-6) - Currently tied for the 2nd best record and 2nd in points. Can ownership issues and mounting injuries derail the 2013 season for the Dodgers?
4) :BOS: Boston Red Sox  (29-6) - Hot start to the year for the Red Sox but do they have enough to hold off the Rays and Yankees in the super competitive AL East?
5) :CLE: Cleveland Indians  (28-7) - 4th in points scored and have the 6th best record in the league. Have already opened a 11 game lead over the Royals in the AL Central.
6) :TEX: Texas Rangers  (29-6) - 7th in points to start the year. Should be a tight race in the AL West this year but do the Rangers have enough to beat Athletics?
7) :TB: Tampa Bay Rays  (25-10) - 6th in Points scored this year but the Rays play in the competitive AL East. Do they have what it takes to compete with the Red Sox and Yankees for the whole year?
8) :COL: Colorado Rockies  (27-8) - Great start to the year by the Rockies. Is this the team to finally unseat the Dodgers as NL West Champs?
9) :NYY: New York Yankees  (25-10) - 10th in points scored to start the year but little depth for the Yankees. Do they have what it takes to compete in the AL East all year? Can they fill the void at MI left by The Captain?
10) :PHI: Philadelphia Phillies  (23-12) - Solid start by the Phillies. Taking care of business (12-0 division record) in the weakest division in FGM.
11) :HOU: Houston Astros  (22-13) - Moved from competitive NL Central to the tough AL West in the offseason. Can they contend with the Rangers and Athletics?
12) :STL: St. Louis Cardinals  (26-9) - The Cardinals have tremendous depth which is currently being tested with injuries to a couple key Bats and their Pitching staff.
13) :CHC: Chicago Cubs  (29-6) - Tied for the 2nd best record in FGM but only the 13th highest scoring team. Have played the weakest schedule at this point in the season.
14) :SEA: Seattle Mariners  (15-20) - Young team that is scoring well but is in one of the toughest FGM divisions. Can they improve upon their 4th place finish in the AL West in 2012?
15) :SF: San Francisco Giants  (15-20) - Solid scoring team but needs to take care of business in the NL West, currently 3-9 in the division.
16) :KC: Kansas City Royals  (17-18) - Slow start by the Royals in the 2013 season. Can they make a run at the Indians for the AL Central title?
17) :NYM: New York Mets  (13-22) - Corey has lead a rebuilding effort in New York that has seen an improvement in the rotation in 2013. Will someone else be leading the re-building effort soon?
18) :MIA-MLB: Miami Marlins  (10-25) - Fernandez and Grimm leading a wave of young pitching in Miami has the Marlins competing in the NL East and looking to improve on their 5th place finish in 2012
19) :BAL: Baltimore Orioles  (18-17) - Baltimore currently has a winning record. Have pigs learned to fly or has hell frozen over?
20) :MIN: Minnesota Twins  (14-21) - Segura has been a standout for the Twins this year but they need to take care of business in their own division (3-9 division record)
21) :CHW: Chicago White Sox  (6-29) - Not much depth for the White Sox but don't let the record fool you. They have played a brutal early schedule but the season is young still. Can they come back and make a run in the AL Central?
22) :ARZ: Arizona Diamondbacks  (14-21) - This team is lead by Goldschmidt and Scherzer but they need some other players to step up in order to compete and move higher this year.
23) :CIN: Cincinnati Reds  (10-25) - Slow start for the Reds this year as their star slugger Josh Hamilton has gotten off to a horrible start. Can Hamilton rebound to his prior form or has the LA Night life caught up to him?
24) :SD: San Diego Padres  (11-24) - Evereth Cabrera and Gerardo Parra have been excellent surprises this year for the Padres but the Padres have few starting pitchers and little to no depth. The MLB Rumor Mill is a buzz with the possible move of GM Joeshmoe to the Dodgers.
25) :TOR: Toronto Blue Jays  (5-30) - Have played a brutal schedule in the early part of the 2013 season. When will A-Rod be back and can he give this team the jolt that it needs?
26) :PIT: Pittsburgh Pirates  (8-27) - Pirates lost a lot of players in the past offseason and just traded Rios. Will the firesale continue? Where will the Pirates be in 2015?
27) :WAS: Washington Nationals  (11-24) - From 2012 NL East champs to the cellar. Very little depth to the team and currnetly facing ownership issues. Who will lead the rebuildilng effort in the Nations Capitol?
28) :DET: Detroit Tigers  (2-33) - 2nd worst record in the league but are 25th in Scoring. Tigers need to add starters as there is nothing in the rotation behind Ace Clayton Kershaw.
29) :LAA: Los Angeles Angels  (6-29) - Decent pitching but weak in Offense. No prospects that are close in the pipeline so it looks like it will be another tough year in LA.
30) :ATL: Atlanta Braves  (1-34) - Not much has gone right for the Braves this year but they are the current favorites to win the Carlos Rodon Sweepstakes.

Great commentary and a nice visual to see how franchises have changed over the past couple years.  Five of the bottom six are teams everyone expected to be winning.

Early playoff predictions...

Seriously, who would have guessed that the combined record of :TOR: :PIT: :WAS: :DET: :ATL: would be 27-148.  Even at the end of the season when we mix records with a .500 record and calibrate them, the total W-L would still be very bad.

  • Daddy: If i have 10 top level AA prospects each in the top 10 of the franchise vs one middle of the road pitcher like Cal Quantrill (or pick a guy) which one of those two packages are more valuable?
    May 05, 2024, 02:39:26 PM
  • Daddy: If you think its the AA guys send me a pm.
    May 05, 2024, 02:40:07 PM
  • Daddy: Also... Ive got a nice private island full of beautiful women to sell you. Pay me upfront and i will send you its coordinates. We call it the Virgin Daddy Islands. $5k reserves it for your future.

  • dbreer23: Take two to tango, though. Most owners with adequate or surplus SP aren't interested in prospects as they're trying to win now.
    May 05, 2024, 02:42:54 PM
  • Daddy: Agreed. But most does not equal all.
    May 05, 2024, 02:45:09 PM
  • Braves155: My issue in LIVE currently is having Strider/Alcantara/Giolito all on the long shelf, so I am more retooling than rebuilding
    May 05, 2024, 02:46:48 PM
  • Daddy: Also agreed. Top quality pitching probably means not much depth. A few injuries can challenge you. Pitching other than top end pitching has been devalued in fantasy. Everyone wants the stud.
    May 05, 2024, 02:49:24 PM
  • Braves155: But I myself could use some time on a nudie island with some hot women
    May 05, 2024, 02:49:45 PM
  • Daddy: I here to tell you that ALL major league pitching is good pitching. A great hitter beats a terrible pitcher just 3 out of 10 times. Which means the worst pitchers > the greatest hitters.

  • Brent: Greg Maddux had the best outlook.  He viewed himself as tye dealer/house and you had to beat him.  Just like in the casino, the house nearly always wins.
    May 05, 2024, 04:33:51 PM
  • Brent: He had that view b/c of his father who was a blackjack dealer in Vegas.
    May 05, 2024, 04:35:28 PM
  • Daddy: Yes @Brent!! That is it exactly. Pitching is the house & it always wins in the end.
    May 05, 2024, 05:15:18 PM
  • Daddy: There shouldn't be many innings available in FA in dynasty fantasy leagues IMO. Thats guaranteed money! To hell with High A ball.
    May 05, 2024, 05:21:23 PM
  • Daddy: Until someone starts a minor league baseball fantasy game or option. Maybe we can petition fantrax? I just dont think they will care for that.
    May 05, 2024, 05:23:07 PM
  • Daddy: Neither should we (so much). Every league i see is MLB.

  • Braves155: The problem with the minors is not the system as a whole, it is some Farm Systems are more 'elite' at being able to produce talent than others. If you look across MLB teams you can pretty easily tell the great systems from the weaker systems and talent development
    May 05, 2024, 05:57:14 PM
  • Braves155: With regard to pitching in the Minors...there is  method to the madness. It is all about what you make of it tho. I agree that it can seem certain type arms in the minors are a dime a dozen
    May 05, 2024, 06:02:39 PM
  • Daddy: Mr Braves you are my guy. There isnt anything wrong with minor league studs or flops. I get it in REAL baseball.
    May 05, 2024, 06:20:28 PM
  • Daddy: This is fantasy baseball. We dont generate revenue selling prospects and merchandising. Our top farms dont get a write up in Sports Illustrated.
    May 05, 2024, 06:22:29 PM
  • Daddy: Load up on MLB guys, then near MLB guys, and only then is the quality of your prospects matter. Ya dig ;)
    May 05, 2024, 06:24:36 PM
  • Brent: I over value minors to a fault, but I am softening on that stance.
    May 05, 2024, 06:45:54 PM
  • dbreer23: @BigDon you around? Get a hold of me over at FT if you are.

  • Daddy: Now either there are a lot of people copying our style or trying to learn it.. or possibly there is just that much interest by visitors. Maybe both. Either way, we got to be doing something right. The NHL LIVE season, will start with an amateur draft.
