Title: Know your GM
Post by: Dan Wood on April 30, 2012, 06:10:49 PM
Since we've had a lot of turnover since the last time we did one of these, I would like each GM to say something about themselves. It seemed to work the last time we did it, so I'll give it another go. Would be nice if we got 100% participation.

About me...

My name is Dan (if you didn't notice by my handle). Love the Mets, baseball, and when Jake's mom gives me a freebee on my birthday and/or Christmas. Favorite current player is Josh Hamilton, a close second is Billy Butler. Favorite all-time player Lenny Dykstra, Keith Hernandez is a close second.

Currently I landscape for work, after working in TV for 8 years, and just got accepted into a Graduate program for Occupational Therapy. Welcomed my first child into this world this past December, name is Statham, and is the best thing ever.

My name is Chris.  I'm a big Philly sports fan.  Thank god for the Phillies winning it all as I'd really be in the crazy house by now!  I can't really say anything witty about Jake's mom.  Growing up I was a big Jose Canseco fan in the bash brother days.  I idolized Schmidt and Carlton back in the day.  I'm a big fan of anyone who plays the game hard nowadays.

I work as an Operations Manager in the call center business.  I have been doing it since moving to Florida from New Jersey nine years ago.  I really would like to go into business for myself with something on the internet.

We have had a lot of turnover?  BTW, the Rockies team history needs updated.

My name is Colby, and I love the Buccos.  That should have been obvious.  Favorite player of all-time is Nolan Ryan.  Favorite Bucco is Doug Drabek.  I am amazed at what pitchers can do.  I am actually a bigger football fan, but love fantasy baseball much more.  Plus, it is easier to be a Steelers fan than a Pirates fan!  Contrary to popular belief, I do not work for ProFSL.  Like someone else in this league (hint, he is a GM in the NL West), I am an Actuary, and I work in the Healthcare sector.

A lot of turnover since the last time we did one of these...I believe we did it in 2010...it's been a while, and I'd estimate 40%, maybe under - but close - to that turnover. We've had 3 Mets and Angels GMs since we did this last.

Ahh, gotcha... I assumed we did it last year.  We have had little turnover in the past year.

I'm Jake Douglas, Nationals owner, previously Angels.

26 years old, grocery manager for a Midwest grocery chain (40 stores, roughly). Two daughters, ages 3 and 2, with our next due in August.

I enjoy video games, gin and tonics, smacking Dan's mom for only making me $10 a night on the street, and making fun of people.

Favorite teams are the White Sox, Spurs, and Arizona Cardinals.

Hey guys,

My name is Eric aka "Ernie" (Corey gave that nickname) or "EJ" and a huge sports nut like everybody on here. I am a Plant Operator making clean burning diesel fuel as well as jet fuel. I am getting married in October who I have been with for the past 4 years.

I was born in the oil field plains of North Dakota and moved to Colorado about almost 5 years ago. My teams are :CAR: :BOS: :Kansas: :COL: :COL-NHL: :NorthDakota: and :Liverpool:

Prob my favorite player when I was young was Vince Carter since I played basketball. Baseball and football pretty much take the cake, but since moving to Colorado I have become more accustomed to hockey as well! Pedro Martinez, Dustin Pedroia, and Troy Tulowitzki are prob my fav players (Ironic that both are on my team  )

Oh cant forget Jon Beason!!!

I'm Nick, im in high school. Live in North carolina, although im originally from denmark. I support all the carolina teams (it's been rough for a few years). I've become a big braves fan since NC is deprived of an MLB team (im left to go watch single A baseball here, which i suppose is better than nothing). Chipper Jones is definitely my favorite player. But yea, im just a huge sports, and fantasy sports, junkie... there's not a sport i wont watch

I am an Allstate agent, so im online all day Mon-Fri its really very sad haha. As a few others have said Football is my first love nothing compares to college football at all! I do enjoy fantasy baseball a LOT more! My favorite baseball players are Jeter, Griffey Jr. I literally learned to switch hit because of Griffey Jr lol. Lets get this outta the way on the favorite teams

:Oklahoma:
:NYY:
:DAL:
:LAL:
Who cares about hockey and soccer lol.

I have reasons behind each team. Other then that this is me OUDAN/Dave Boris Jr lol

Although all alcohol is a toxin, gin is especially bad.  The Juniper plant is toxic to humans (relatively minor, but still a toxin, and worse over consistent consumption), and gin is juniper berry.  That's why I switched (I loved gin and tonic) to Whiskeys.  That, and because there are way more varieties and kinds of whiskey to be enjoyed.  I love mine as a Jameson's with Ginger-ale.  Although Canadian, Bourbon and Scotch whiskeys are all nice.  I still enjoy a gin and tonic from time to time but I feel better about whiskey.

I'm Chris, or Joe as most call me (which I secretly love).  I think my profsl name signifies how I feel and who I am.  I am merely another joeshmoe caught up in a world that is far too messed.  I am a  product of the generation that brought the rise of nintendo and rugrats.  I love satire television like Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld, Simpsons, Monty Python; and sports.  I watch little tv otherwise.  I would much rather read lists of philosophy, or economics.  I am also a product of the intellectual revolution which is now coming to fruition more and more.  I love Griffen, Hazlitt, Mises, Rothbard.  Etc.  So the comedy is escape from the otherwise harsh realities of life for me.

Sports is the other release.  I like to play them, watch them, play them on video games, and play them in fantasy.  Any of them really.  Golf and tennis are more fun to play in real life than in virtual reality...but I do like Tiger Woods golf now and then.  I stick mainly to the big 4 when it comes to fantasy and video games.  I will watch and play anything.

I took over the Padres two seasons ago now and they were in a rough place.  In hindsight I could have kept Gonzo but I think Gamel, Perez and Rondon might pay off for me.  It has allowed me to make moves and learn on the go.  Fantasy baseball in a 30 team league is deeper than watching the Red Sox growing up.  I now rarely trade, and make few free agent moves.  I am enjoying watching SD grow as I draft and produce with leftover veterans or 5th starters.  I cannot wait for Baez to get to the bigs, his bat scores really supreme.  That's the Padres.

I like playing them (fantasy and for real), writing about them and watching them. I am currently a special education teacher in Arizona but moving back east in about a month.

Favorite teams are the New York Yankees, New York Jets and New York Knicks. My favorite players right now are Robinson Cano, Kevin Durant and Nick Mangold. Favorite player of all time is Donnie Baseball.

I know there are occasional profile field problems with older league profile fields, but you should show off your favorite teams in your profile.

I am Rob Miller.  I live on the outskirts of Charlotte, NC, grew up in Virginia Beach, and attended school at West Virginia.  I have been married since 2006, we have a daughter turning 2 this month and another on the way, due in late October.  I am an engineering consultant for natural gas and landfill gas systems, pipelines, etc.  Primary do design and compliance.

I am a sports nut ever since I was little.  Life now a days does not allow me to watch too many games, so I keep up with sports through fantasy sports.  Baseball is my favorite fantasy sport, but college football and basketball are my favorite to watch.  Teams are Braves, WVU, Eagles and Carolina Panthers.

I grew up going to Tidewater Tides games in Norfolk, along with many Orioles games.  I was an avid autograph and baseball card collector, focused primarily on prospects at the time.

In what little free time I have, I play racquetball at least one time per week and any tournaments that are within driving distance, and neighborhood basketball.

I love to play sports.  Easiest to set up and play is basketball if you have a ball and know a good local court.  Football only needs a ball, but you have to have at least 5-6 guys.  And that's still shabby.  Tennis is great.  I like frisbee but the same problem with football happens with frisbee.  Ice hockey is a blast.

Golf though, is the greatest leisure game ever.  A nice sunny afternoon.  I may go today.

My name is Kris Dougherty and I am currently the GM of the Chicago Cubs. I had a short stint with the Giants in 2010, but had to leave because of school and work commitments. However, Dan reeled me back in last year when the Cubs opened up and even fo though I hate him for it, I am glad to be back.

I manage a comic book store and go to Purchase College, where I study Creative Writing and Literature. I am a Libra, a lifelong Angels fan and I absolutely despise hipsters and fantasy baseball. But as has been the case with some of the girlfriends I've had, no matter how miserable they make me, I just can't seem to get away. I also enjoy vintage 80's BMX bikes and both Dan's and Jake's mom, sometimes all at the same time, it really depends on how dangerous I'm feeling.

My name is Jason Harnack and I am currently the GM of the Chicago White Sox. Like Colby, I am a huge Pirates fan and I believe this year is the end of the curse and I will be alive to see a winning buccos team! Currently, I am still a sophomore in high school. I would like to pursue something in the field on engineering when I go onto high school. I love to camp and shoot things. I know I am not the most active trader in this league but honestly I don't really think constant trading helps a team but it more hurts it and I am a terrible trade negotiator. But come this trade deadline I plan to take my team either to the top if I am still in first place and if not continue to add to my many young pieces. GO EL TORRO!

I am Howe, 25 from Waterloo Canada. I started playing fantasy baseball when I was 12, found the management aspect to be very rewarding. I actually don't like watching baseball at all, instead I like to watch soccer / mma / hockey / badminton. I also like to play badminton, the fastest racquet sport on earth. Don't really have a favourite baseball player, I tend to follow TOR/TB more closely as I a fan of both Anthopolous and Friedman. I also work as an actuary but my area of practice is in P&C.

My name is Ernesto Quiroz.  I am the GM of the San Francisco Giants.  I am a lifelong Giants fan.  I have braved the winds of Candlestick Park as a youngster and I took my own kids to see many games.  I found the FGM on a web search and happened to see that the Giants needed a GM.  Colby approved my application after I told him that I remember going to Candlestick Park and seeing Vada Pinson rob Willie Mays with a diving catch on Bat Day (when they used to give real bats to the kids!)

I am an avid fan of the Giants, the 49ers, and the Golden State Warriors.  I live in Goleta, CA (next to Santa Barbara) and in June I will be retiring from the classroom after 34 years as a social studies teacher.  I have been in Southern California for the past 10 years, and thanks to DirecTV, I get a chance to follow all my favorite teams.

I am currently a Little League coach, and as a Giants fan, I have had to suffer to the ultimate indignation.  Three years ago, when I was given a team, I had a choice to be the manager of the Giants or the Dodgers.  As a Giants fan, is was a no-brainer, but as a grandpa, I had to think of my grandson.  My daughter married a Dodgers fan and my three grand kids are confirmed Dodgers fans.  I could not ask him to represent the Giants, so instead, I suffer the humiliation of wearing Dodgers gear two times a week when we play games.

Go Giants!

My name is Roy Cankosyan, and I am the GM of the Texas Rangers.  I am a Yankees and Jets fan (yes I know it's not the common combination) and a huge fan of fantasy baseball and football.

I am an accountant, and I live in Blauvelt, NY.  I am married with three kids ages 4, 7, and 10.
