Franchise NHL: Completed Transactions / Try Out Players in NHL
« on: September 20, 2013, 11:28:46 AM »
http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/nhl/44423/98/assessing-the-tryout-players
That's a link to an article about try out players in the NHL.

I'm surprised a guy like Ryan Whitney is on a PTO with :STL-NHL:
You'd think teams like :FLO: :TBL: and :CLG: could use his services but then again he probably had a small list to pick from before choosing the Blues.

Mason Raymond on a PTO deal with :TOR-NHL: man the Leafs lucked out having a top 9 guy fall into their lap. He's got plenty of speed and trying out in Toronto means he'll get lots of media attention for other teams to keep tabs on him in case Toronto passes on him.

Tim Thomas. Age doesn't matter for good players. Hasek. Brodeur. All these guys are competitors and they can play any time they want. Whether Thomas really wants to play is another issue. And the statement he was trying to make with :BOS-NHL: was a total failure if he thought he was leaving the team high and dry. LOL Stanley Cup appearance without your sorry butt in tow. Suck it up and get back on the ice little man.  :toast:
Thomas could easily make :FLO: a serious contender because it wasn't all that long ago that the Panthers were a play-off team.

Franchise NHL: Invalid Transactions / Re: Predators and Blues Trade
« on: September 20, 2013, 10:05:50 AM »
Men. You know I have a lot of love for you both but uuuuuuhm, this deal hurts :NAS: bigtime in a goalie starved league.

Three reasons:
1 - :NAS: moving Rinne before confirming with 100% certainty Karri Ramo is a starter is dangerous for the Predators franchise losing a critical, not key, but ultra critical player in their line-up.

2 - The return does not equal to a Pekka Rinne. Colaiacovo isn't signed anywhere in the NHL and likely would've been an inexpensive FA if he was a free agent. Max Domi is good but not worth 1/4th of Rinne. Jaden is potenitally worth 1/4 of a Pekka.

3. Finally the Blues already have starting goalies Bishop,Halak and starter in waiting Jake Allen so it's not like :NAS: needs to charitably give away Rinne.

This deal hurts the :NAS: franchise so I vote No and hope the teams involved understand this is not good for the league.

:veto:

  • Daddy: If i have 10 top level AA prospects each in the top 10 of the franchise vs one middle of the road pitcher like Cal Quantrill (or pick a guy) which one of those two packages are more valuable?

  • dbreer23: Take two to tango, though. Most owners with adequate or surplus SP aren't interested in prospects as they're trying to win now.
  • Daddy: Agreed. But most does not equal all.

  • Braves155: My issue in LIVE currently is having Strider/Alcantara/Giolito all on the long shelf, so I am more retooling than rebuilding
    Yesterday at 02:46:48 PM
  • Daddy: Also agreed. Top quality pitching probably means not much depth. A few injuries can challenge you. Pitching other than top end pitching has been devalued in fantasy. Everyone wants the stud.

  • Daddy: I here to tell you that ALL major league pitching is good pitching. A great hitter beats a terrible pitcher just 3 out of 10 times. Which means the worst pitchers > the greatest hitters.

  • Brent: Greg Maddux had the best outlook.  He viewed himself as tye dealer/house and you had to beat him.  Just like in the casino, the house nearly always wins.
  • Brent: He had that view b/c of his father who was a blackjack dealer in Vegas.
  • Daddy: Yes @Brent!! That is it exactly. Pitching is the house & it always wins in the end.

  • Daddy: There shouldn't be many innings available in FA in dynasty fantasy leagues IMO. Thats guaranteed money! To hell with High A ball.

  • Daddy: Until someone starts a minor league baseball fantasy game or option. Maybe we can petition fantrax? I just dont think they will care for that.

  • Braves155: The problem with the minors is not the system as a whole, it is some Farm Systems are more 'elite' at being able to produce talent than others. If you look across MLB teams you can pretty easily tell the great systems from the weaker systems and talent development
    Yesterday at 05:57:14 PM
  • Braves155: With regard to pitching in the Minors...there is  method to the madness. It is all about what you make of it tho. I agree that it can seem certain type arms in the minors are a dime a dozen
    Yesterday at 06:02:39 PM
  • Daddy: Mr Braves you are my guy. There isnt anything wrong with minor league studs or flops. I get it in REAL baseball.
  • Daddy: This is fantasy baseball. We dont generate revenue selling prospects and merchandising. Our top farms dont get a write up in Sports Illustrated.
  • Daddy: Load up on MLB guys, then near MLB guys, and only then is the quality of your prospects matter. Ya dig ;)
