Dynasty NHL: Rules / Releasing Players/Buyouts
« on: June 26, 2011, 05:33:52 PM »
Any released player signed for less than $1m will not count against the cap.  Any released player signed for $1m+ still has his contract count against the cap at a buyout rate.  The buyout for a player is equal to 66% of the players total remaining contract.  This buyout may be paid out all at once in the current contract year, or it may be financed over the remaining length of the contract.  The buyout cannot be financed longer than the current remaining contract.  For example, a player with 2 years left on his contract cannot be bought out over 3 years.  The maximum buyout years for that player is 2 years.

Releases are handled directly by the GM - simply remove the player from your Fantrax roster.  Fantrax will automatically calculate the 66% buyout over the remaining length of the contract.  If the GM wishes to pay off the buyout in fewer years they should post a transaction on the ProFSL board.  Any other unique cap adjustments (like free drops for retired players and those under $1m) should also be posted about on the ProFSL board.

***A GM may at any time decide to re-allocate funds to a buyout.  For instance, if LA is to buyout Doughty over 3 years, but in year 2 he realizes he has funds to spare, he may use funds in the 2nd year to pay off some or all of what he owes in the 3rd year in order to clear up future cap space.

Dynasty NHL: Rules / Contracts & Extensions
« on: June 26, 2011, 05:32:26 PM »
No Variable Contracts:  Each year of a contract must have the same salary amount.  All contracts must be signed to at least $500,000 and must be in multiples of $100,000.

Contract Limits
Except for any contract inherited in 2011, all contracts must be no longer than five years. Also, for a given salary, all contracts have term limits (max years contract can be per the yearly salary) as provided below.

Salary - Max Years
$5m+ - 5 years (the overall limit)
$3.5 to $4.9m - 4 years
$2 to $3.4m - 3 years
$0 to $1.9m - 2 years

Contract Limits for Extensions
Contract extensions follow the contract maximum lengths as shown above as well as their own minimum standards.

Salary - Min & Max Years
$6.5m+ - 5 years (the overall limit)
$5 to $6.4m - 4 or 5 years
$3.5 to $4.9m - 3 or 4 years
$2 to $3.4m - 2 or 3 years
$0 to $1.9m - 1 or 2 years

Original Contracts
Other than prospects all players come in with original deals as of the end of the 10/11 season (6/15/11). Original contract values are taken from Hockeybuzz and rounded to the next $100k.

Prospect Contracts
To simplify things, all prospects (under 40 NHL games played) will inherit $500k/yr contracts.  Prospect contracts are eternal, they will always make $500k and no extension is required.  The contract lasts for two years after the point they accumulate 40 NHL games played.  They may accumulate this over multiple years, but the two year rule does not take effect until the year they actually hit the accumulation threshold.  A player becomes ineligible for a prospect contract when that player is released from a prospect contract that had its two year clock already start.

Example:  Prospect X plays his 40th game in January of 2011.  His prospect contract would now take him through 11/12 & 12/13 and he will need to be extended to a normal contract for the 13/14 season.

Prospects on the minor league roster do not count towards the salary cap.  They only count towards the cap if they're on the NHL roster.

Prospect extension discount
Any player who is under an expiring prospect contract may be extended with a discount. Such an extension must be a 5-year deal where the annual salary is 70% of their normal extension value.  The resulting salary must be no less than $2m.  This extension can only be made once the player has exhausted their prospect contract, no earlier.  The prospect extension is excluded from the contract limits rules on normal extensions.  It is a 5-year deal no matter what.  A prospect can be extended to a normal contract with no discount if the team does not want to sign the 5-year deal.

Extensions
Contract extensions may be offered for expiring contracts during the offseason "Extension Period" which is normally a 3 month period from when the NHL regular season ends in April until the entry draft is complete in June. The exact time-frame will be announced annually.  Extension values are determined by looking up the player's fantasy points in both the current season and the prior season.  The higher of these two values is multiplied by a static factor of $25K (EXCEPT FOR THE 19/20 SEASON WHICH IS MULTIPLIED BY $30K DUE TO THE COVID SHORTENED SEASON).  The result is the players' extension value.  Contract length follows the minimum/maximum rules stated above.

Extensions on non-expiring players are allowed during the entirety of the offseason.  Extensions on non-expiring players must be equal to or greater than the value and length of the contract in force.  You can't renew an existing contract for less than its worth currently.

NO EXTENSIONS ARE ALLOWED WHILE REGULAR SEASON PLAY IS ONGOING

The minimum contract extension is $800k - any player that falls under that value must be extended at $800k.

** Contracts are rounded up or down to the nearest 100k ***

Dynasty NHL: Rules / Free Agency
« on: June 26, 2011, 05:27:58 PM »
Bids are in format of total contract value. Note that the number of years does not need to be listed until the bid is won.  The resulting salary will be the final bid divided by number of years, rounded to the nearest $100k. The winning bid will be the highest total contract amount.

Each player is auctioned in a separate thread at the ProFSL website that may be started by anyone.  A bid on a player is considered final when it has been open for 48 hours. Once a bid is final, a contract must be signed.  The winning bidder may not back out of signing a contract.

***No team may have more than 5 active bids at anytime.***

Any player that is eligible for a prospect contract (less than 40 games played in the NHL) is NOT eligible to be acquired through free agency.  These players must be drafted in the Supplemental draft.

Dynasty NHL: Rules / Draft Keepers & Supplemental Draft
« on: June 26, 2011, 05:26:00 PM »
Every year after the NHL entry draft each team can choose to keep up to 3 players that their actual NHL team drafts on a yearly basis.  In this way we continuously inject prospects from the actual NHL teams.  This will help to keep a hometown feel to our fantasy teams over the years.  Teams may only keep players drafted by their team in the NHL entry draft; foreign players and unprotected prospects will be handled via the supplemental draft.  If a player is traded to another team during the draft he is considered drafted by the team he ends up with by the end of the draft.  So if Montreal picks a player then trades him during the draft, that player cannot be kept by Montreal, but can be kept by the team he is traded to.

In addition to the 3 entry draft keepers there will be a 3 round supplemental draft where all unkept prospects, prospects drafted by contracted teams, and all other prospect eligible (less than 40GP) players, even those drafted in previous years, can be drafted.  A player who goes undrafted and unsigned in his first eligible draft year may not be drafted in the Supplemental until they are drafted or signed by an NHL franchise.

***Important, regarding trading picks:  The only trade-able draft picks are picks from the 3 round supplemental draft.  You cannot trade your keeper picks.***

Dynasty NHL: Rules / League & Roster Settings
« on: June 26, 2011, 05:23:58 PM »
Basic Requirements
You must be an active member of the ProFSL forum as most transactions are processed on the board.  If you do not respond to a PM inquiry regarding your status in the league then you may be let go due to inactivity.  If you plan on going on a hiatus of any type (vacation, busy with work) then please notify the commissioner and co-owners ahead of time.

Available Franchises
All 30 NHL franchises are available on a first come first serve basis.  The first 20 teams taken will make up the league and the remaining teams will be contracted.  A contraction draft will occur as soon as the league is full.

Franchise Name
Your franchise name is tied to the actual NHL franchise.  If the teams name changes, or the franchise moves to a different city, your team name must adapt.

Roster Size
Your NHL roster can be no more than 30 active players.  Your minor league roster can be no more than 15.

Initial Rosters
Initial rosters reflect players that the franchise has as of the end of the 2011 season.  Any transactions after this date are not included in Dynasty NHL (This means Philly still has Richards and Carter).

Minor League Roster Eligibility
A player must have less than 40 NHL games played to be eligible for the minor league roster.  Any eligible player may be placed in the minors at any time.  If a player in the minors goes over the limit he may remain in the minors until you decide to call them up.

League Site
Scoring will be on Fantrax.

Rosters
C (3)
RW (3)
LW (3)
D (6)
G (2)
Bench (13)
IR (1)
LITR (1)

Injured Reserve
Each team will have two Injured Reserve slots.  Players on IR do not count against the cap or the roster size, allowing for teams to add a replacement player via FA or call-up from minors while the injured player is out.  Eligibility for IR is determined by Fantrax. When a player is placed on IR by their team Fantrax flags them as such and will allow you to move the player to your IR.  When Fantrax news is not updated, such as in the offseason, eligibility is determined by the commissioner and processed manually.  Players who missed significant time the previous season or are scheduled to miss significant time the following season will be determined as eligible even if Fantrax hasn't flagged as such due to lack of updated injury news in the offseason.

Retired Players
All contracts for players who retire from the NHL are considered null and void.

All contracts for players 35+ years old who leave the NHL to play overseas in another league are considered null and void.  ***If a team acquires a former NHL player currently playing overseas with the expectation that the player will return to the NHL in the future, the contract cannot be voided.  The player needs to leave during the contracted time to qualify.

All contracts for players under 35 years old who leave the NHL to play overseas in another league remain in force.

Lineups
The lineups can be set daily.  The scoring period is weekly.

Salary Cap
The salary cap will be addressed on a yearly basis to reflect the current state of the NHL.
2011/2012 salary cap = $70m
2012/2013 salary cap = $75.8m
2013/2014 salary cap = $82.8m

  • Daddy: Also agreed. Top quality pitching probably means not much depth. A few injuries can challenge you. Pitching other than top end pitching has been devalued in fantasy. Everyone wants the stud.

  • Braves155: The problem with the minors is not the system as a whole, it is some Farm Systems are more 'elite' at being able to produce talent than others. If you look across MLB teams you can pretty easily tell the great systems from the weaker systems and talent development

  • Braves155: With regard to pitching in the Minors...there is  method to the madness. It is all about what you make of it tho. I agree that it can seem certain type arms in the minors are a dime a dozen
