  I agree that there should be some sort of retirement clause. It isn't a GM's fault if a player chooses to retire. Plus the NHL doesn't make teams pay out the contracts of retired players, that would be ridiculous. Half of my free agents are on the border of retiring, I could sign them before they decide, only to have them retire and loss all that money and cap space.
