I know when FA starts, each week or so a different position is open. If you want to pick up a player in the minors during this period who is not on anyone's roster, do you have to wait for their position to open up, or can you pick them up as soon as FA begins?

can you clarify what the rule is for prospects reaching the 41 game mark?

are they automatically free agents as soon as they've completed their 41st NHL regular season game?

i don't think 40 games sneaks up on anyone who's marginally active in this league. if youre awol for 4months sure but do we have to send the GM a private message still?

When I figure out that a player has played 40 games. I will make a post and give a 24hr warning to sign him. I also check activity before the warning as I don't want to destroy a team. I know there is a pretty obvious player right now. I'm searching for a new gm for that team.

I looked back at he 2011 Free agency period bidding wars because I wasn't around at the time and holy, what kind of craziness was going on. Goalies signed for 12 Million a year. above average forwards signed to $7 Million contracts and so on.

I am starting to think I don't have enough cap space to make the Free agent moves I was hoping to this summer.
