FA this year has been an absolute yawner. Jeez, haha. Zero fireworks and players going for exactly as expected for the most part.

Other than Mike Smith, haha. 100% probability Slack signs him for 1 year and then trades him, fully paid for, for a good prospect or draft picks. Well played Slacky, well played.

Abby should just bid more on Smith so Slack has to spread out that contract for 2 years, haha.

Right now Smith is likely to get a $5m per year contract from Slack. His resign value is actually $5.7m which means he'd probably have more value if Slack just signed him to a 4 year $5m per year deal and traded him paid for this year. Otherwise the person who trades for him will either lose him after one year or have to pay the higher resign value of $5.7m.

Only problem with a 4-year is Smitty is 36 years old, haha. Not sure he's going to be any good past next year, which still leaves 2 years left at $5m per!

2 years at $10m per makes sense - and then trade him fully paid for, in exchange for some more youth.
You're welcome for that tip Slacky!

Didn't you just land Z? Chara is like 41 or something! Typically goalies have a longer playing career than D, but I'll give you that Z may be the exception. Seriously, that guy ate his twin brother in the womb!!

Anyhoo, I'm not thinking much beyond this season. Smith is the starter on a super-stacked team! I'm happy to be associated with him but I'll move him for a reasonable price. If you're serious about winning, a 300 point producer like Smith could put a contender over the top. Basically free of charge... for like a pick or a prospect. That's a win-win in my books. But yeah, fully paid for sure.

Z should still be serviceable. I had to go all-in for some of the "best" D out there since the NHL decided to suspend Nate Schmidt 20 games for doing nothing wrong... (From what I've read and listened to).

Hey man, can't knock your logic and strategy. I did the same thing about 3 years ago when I entered this league.
I think I got Cal Clutterbuck for like $13m for 1 year, and then I traded him for something fully paid for (while he was still putting up half decent points along with his 1000 hits a season).
