DNHL divisions
« on: November 08, 2019, 03:08:52 PM »
Why is Detroit in the slaughterhouse of the Norris (Central)?! This travel schedule is having a negative impact on my players and not to mention the fact that most our games are being played in a different time zone than the teams location and fan base. This is absurd!!!!

 :soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox: :soapbox:

Move Detroit to Adams, where I can be #2 in the division and not #4...

I got Bettman to move Detroit back to the Eastern Conference and I'm sure that I can convince Rob too...

Anyways...just ranting because I feel like it's been quiet around here lately. I hope everyone has a nice weekend and happy Veteran's Day to all those that have served!

Wait, don't divisions not matter as it's just the top-10 teams that get into our playoffs? Or am I missing something...?

Also...Not sure about the whole "happy" Veterans/Remembrance Day thing.
Maybe it's different in Canada. Kind of a somber day and a day to remember, not celebrate.
Maybe in the USA it's all about celebrating your troops in general?

Norris is rough! Didn't see Chicago being quite so competitive. I'm in Canada too and quite happy to have a long weekend!  :toast:

I'm not actually really concerned about what division I'm in. And after missing the playoffs for 2 straight seasons, I don't even remember anymore.

Veteran's day in the USA probably should be more somber than it is, but usually it's about whatever new Hollywood war movie is out or car dealership sales. Plus in the US there is lots of celebrating the troops as a general sentiment, but it seems more like lip service. The NFL teams wear special uniforms and more people say "thank you for your service" than usual. But the troops are more often co-opted for political means than purely patriotic ones.

"happy" is usually the generic term for any holiday in the USA, people even say happy Labor Day, which is supposed to be a commemoration of the strength of workers and the success of unions, but is really just another day people don't really get or think about. People say "happy" everything, except Christmas for some reason where it has to be "merry" and oh boy, don't get caught saying happy holidays around Christmas or you might get chewed out for being too PC.

Hahaha, solid points Iz.

Yeah isn't there some movie coming out about Peal Harbor or something (ANOTHER one, really?).
And I mean, yeah, I don't get the whole "love the troops" thing and then leave them on the streets with no support network once they've served. It's not that much different up here in Canada for that matter, but the US just has a ton more veterans in general.

Bah ha ha, yeah, the whole Christmas thing is hilarious these days. You say something and it's likely to offend someone. It's a joke.

The winners of the 4 divisions get slotted 1-4 for the playoff seeds. So if one division has a down year a weaker team could theoretically get the 4th seed and a first round bye. Toronto is kind of running away with the Adams division right now so they are pretty much guaranteed the 4th seed at worst as long as they win the division.

Veterans Day originated as “Armistice Day” on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and Nov. 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938.

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, allied forces and Germany came together to sign the peace treaty, according to AccuWeather. For years, Americans called Nov. 11 Armistice Day until it was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.

It's also known in Canada as the final broadcast of Coaches Corner.

I'm sneaky good this year, maybe not to win it all but a solid turnaround for sure.
