Armchair Fantasy Baseball: Archives / Re: Minor League affiliates
« on: April 30, 2011, 09:58:59 AM »
So far I've only found one site that scores minor league baseball players for fantasy baseball (and it claims it's the only one). It does not allow people to create their own leagues though.

It is not an entry fee league. I know that especially in this economy, it's not feasible for many people to spend money on playing a game.

I know there are bots out there that look for e-mail addresses, but I thought that taking the "@" out would mitigate that. Is that just a myth?

I had not planned on scoring minor league teams, but I'm open to the idea of it if anybody has any suggestions. My original plan was just to use the minor league system as a "holding area" until they become major leaguers.

I'll think about it over this weekend, but if anybody else has any ideas to throw out there in the meanwhile, I'm all ears.

Kenny, I want the worst team.  Like you, put me at the end of the list.  I would like to set up a long term plan building up from the farm.  Email is admin@ProFSL.com.

That actually wasn't my train of thought, but I wouldn't mind having the worst team. It's the format of the league that intrigues me the most (which is of course why I founded it) so I don't really have a strong preference for a team. I know quite often it's difficult to fill the last spot or two so by taking the last team, I'm hoping this helps our ability to fill out the remainder of the spots.

Armchair Fantasy Baseball: Archives / FAQ (7/23/11)
« on: April 27, 2011, 10:17:16 PM »
Q: Are there any openings?
A: Currently there are no openings, but feel free to let us know of your interest and we'll add you to the waiting list. If a position opens up, the Commissioner's Office will contact you.

Q: What is the idea behind this league?
A: Each GM runs a major league organization, including the major league team and all the minor league teams. Just like reality, the GM's here have to not only sign the best players, but manage player contracts and scout out the best prospect talent out there.

Q: What is the membership fee?
A: There is no membership fee. I know times are tough for many people nowadays, so this is one thing I'm pretty adamant about. Some people like to get away from reality and into fantasy (baseball). Why pay for a game?

Q: Where will this league be run?
A: This league will be scored on Fantrax. I have heard nothing but good things about and it's very customizable.

Q: Wait. You said 30 teams, but you're running a free league on Fantrax? They only allow up to 24.
A: This is where I'm going to have to get creative. I am considering hosting a National League and an American League. The season will be shortened on Fantrax by one or two weeks. For the World Series, I will manually score the NL champion and AL champion for the final one or two weeks.

Q: How will this league be scored?
A: It will be H2H points. Just like in real life, a team with an unbalanced lineup can still win, albeit more difficult. The points setting for each category will match up with Bill James' theory of the game being 48% offense, 16% fielding and 36% pitching as closely as possible.

Q: I don't have enough time to research thousands of players for this fantasy league. Is this going to be a problem if I join this league?
A: While you do need to be active in this league on a frequent basis, it's not a necessity to spend an extraordinary amount of time on it. Unless you have a specific interest in the player, there's no need to know the hitting potential of the backup second baseman for the Round Rock Express. Of course, the more you know about every player, the better off you are, but how many people really have the time for it? Probably nobody in this league. Probably not many individual scouting professionals either!

This is just for choosing your team. You inherit all players and contracts of the team you choose.

Teams will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. The order of selection is here, but I will not ask anybody to select their team until we have the League Constitution substantially complete. If people choose to waive their right to seeing the rules beforehand (such as Reid already selecting the Braves with the 1st pick), they may do so. The order must still be followed though.

A draft copy of the League Constitution is posted in the "Commissioner's Office" and updates will be posted as it is revised.

At this point, I anticipate league activities starting sometime this summer, and our first season beginning in 2012. If you're interested in joining, post here with your name and e-mail address and I'll add you to the list.

Questions and comments are welcomed.

  • ldsjayhawk: @jwalker I make like 2-3 trades a year for each of my baseball teams, maybe.  I'll tell you part of the reason I don't trade.  Every trade discussion starts out with the other team wanting my top prospect regardless of what I am trading for.  I am not trading Jackson Holliday for your backup catcher who is going to play 20 games this year.

  • dbreer23: Agreed. I think the Devers deal in FGM is a good example of that. Devers gives SD some now (and future) pop, giving up substantial pieces to get him (Mayo, Keith, and one other).

  • Jwalkerjr88: Carolina has kyren williams right now cause i traded him for a 2nd and a 4th. Id rather have kyren today lol
    Today at 01:54:28 PM
  • Brent: Agreed.  I have Amon Ra St. Brown and Aiyuk because I traded JJ.  I couldn't have acquired a player like ASB where I was picking in the 1st so I down tiered at WR to make a trio of Chase, ASB and Aiyuk instead of JJ, Chase and fill in the blank.
  • ldsjayhawk: That is probably even more true in baseball since your drafts don't payoff for 5 years or so.  And I will admit my conservatism may be the reason I only have one championship here at ProFSL

  • Brent: I'm contemplating doing a complete tear down in NFL Live and rebuild.  Honestly, I probably should have postered for it to be this season.  I still might, but I would legit need to go into the draft with 3-4 top 10 picks/+ many others.
