Flyers - Penguins Trade
« on: April 15, 2016, 03:38:11 PM »
Philly gets:
C Tomas Hertl, $0.2m (P-16/17)
LW James van Riemsdyk, $5.3m (2019-2020)
Pick 1-12

Penguins get:
C Ryan Getzlaf, $6.9m (2017-2018)
LW Evander Kane, $6.7m (2016-2017)
G Jaroslav Halak, $4m (2017-2018)
D Zdeno Chara, $6.9m (2017-2018)

This is a win-win deal for both teams.  I get two good players, a pick, and much needed cap space and the Pens use their cash to bring in four good players to help round out their roster.  Both teams fill needs here.

Thanks for the deal, Dave!  Good luck to you!

My team sucks let's face it.I need some better players and while they are older they still produce and I have the cap space to do it.

Hate to lose JVR and Hertl and Pick 12 will be a good one but,Getzlaf is a beast and still a great scorer, just had a little down yr.Kane is a player that is still young and has elite skills but also had a down yr in Buffalo still he is a nice player to add to my not so good team.I like getting Halak as I am really having a tough time getting any goalies for my team that are playing but Halak should do well next season which should help me out.Chara is getting old but still the face of Defense for Boston and should help my def.

I fill needs for my team to compete plain and simple   :toth:

Thanks Papps for helping me out here.

I don't have a veto vote, but just wanted to say I thought this trade was great for both teams.  I'm sure if you are the Pens it isn't fun to try to manage when your team is at the bottom and this nets them a conservative 18 points a week.  That is a monster haul.  It is easy to say keep being terrible and draft for the future, but nobody wants to do that in fantasy sports.  Plus if the Pens want they can flip these guys at the trade deadline.  He basically got a starting goalie for a middle of the pack 1st round pick.  Philly gets young scorers and cap space to sign Stamkos.

Great all around.

Don't love this deal, as I see Pittsburgh moving their two best players for an aging star, under producing forward, an aging starting goalie, and an old defenseman.

I don't value the pick much, as I never have unless it's top 3 to 5.  Halak is playing for a young and good team, with no real threat to his starts in Greiss.  I like Getzlaf more than most, and Kane less than most.  Chara is a complete cap dump.

Again, I really like this deal for Philly, but...

Personally I think Philly gains everything here and Pittsburgh nothing,  I shouldnt say nothing,  he got halak.

End of the day, dynasty fantasy leagues are about points per dollars spent.

Getzlaf and Hertl   --- very close in point produced this year, Hertl, younger, cheaper, qualifies for cheap extension.  I love getz but if I am in the pens situation I dont make this trade off, mainly because I think Hertl will produce similar maybe a little lower points but at a very reduced cost.

JVR vs Kane - JVR, scored more points, cheaper , locked in longer term cheaper contract. Both played for bad teams so that is a wash. Kane is a head case and is one or two more off ice incidents from being in the NHL doghouse where no GM touches him.

Chara IMO is a cap nightmare.  2.2 ftps per game at 6.9 mill for another 2 years,  I dont want him on my team not even for a 3rd or 4th round pick.  I can very easily sign someone in FA that will give me as much production for cheaper and younger.

Halak for 1st round pick - Halak wins. although I think he is on shaky ground.  Greiss outplayed him all year and he hit 30 and has been injury prone. Goalies are a crap shoot after 30 yrs old unless they are elite, they can be relegated to obsolete very quickly and I feel like Halak is straddling that line.

This trade would be good for a playoff bound team to make a push at winning it but (sorry dave) not for a team that even with this deal will continue to wallow in mediocrity(ie. probably not even make playoffs).

I also taking into account that the Pens could have very easily finished buying out Patrick Elias's cap hit under last years cap but didnt , this makes me feel like the GM is either dis-engaged or not fully aware of the rules in the league.

My concern is that the pens are at the bottom of the league and I consider them in protection status and by that I mean that trades need to be equal or in their favor.  I cant in good conscience allow the team to get worse.  If it was a middle of the pack team or higher  I would hit approve and not think twice about it.

I do think for the most part the Pens franchise is starting to trend where they need to go, a number of picks in this years draft.  They need another season before making a deal like this.

In this case,  I have to  :veto:

Jared makes a lot of points that I agree with here.  I removed my original post because I was concerned that I might be overreacting and since it was right before the weekend, I didn't want it to influence how other people voted.  Adding to the list of inequities (some debatable, some not, IMO) is the value of cap space.  We are in a transition where the cap is going down, and projects to go down for at least 1 or 2 more seasons based on the model we established last Fall.  We may actually see some really good names in FA this year.  The value of a dollar has increased.  To see $20m thrown away like this is hard to watch when it could be used to gain so much more.

I've been concerned about the health of Pittsburgh for a while now.  This is a team that originally inherited Crosby, Fleury, Kunitz, Letang, Malkin, Neal, Niskanen and Jordan Staal.  There's just no reason this team shouldn't still be a high scoring, heavy hitting team.  Dave, I know you weren't at the helm of Pittsburgh from day 1, but the health of your original team (Dallas, now Calgary) isn't much better.  I hate to come off as an a$$, but Jared said it well about the team being in a sort of "protection status".  If I knew the GM was 100% committed and motivated to improve I would likely give the benefit of the doubt, but I'm not positive on that.  And seeing as you're in 21 leagues here on ProFSL, some of which are multi-sport leagues, I am worried that the focus required to engineer a turnaround of this magnitude might not be there.  And that Patrick Elias oversight is decent evidence of that.

I generally don't veto trades.  I am hard pressed to recall the last time that I did.  But in this case, for the good of the league I am going to veto.   :veto:

BULLSH!T!

My big issue is how can you say it's a good trade for a contending team and not for a rebuilding team? Because he's not trading for all specs and draft picks? How do you know what Dave will do with those assets? Because it's not the traditional model? What if he flips those guys to contenders? GMs should be allowed to run their teams the way they want. This is why I hate TC's. People have their own ways to run the team. One GM says how great the deal is and another says each player for player should be even. That's why this is Bullsh!t!!

Guys

If you all don't think I'm committed please remove me simple as that.

I do the best I can here and every other league i'm in.

What about the other bad teams here do they get a :lecture: as I just got on this trade.

I think it's a good trade for my lousy team. You guys just let me know if you can make a better trade to help my team out.Feel free to offer up for Hertl and JVR,everyone says here JVR is just not that good,Guess I don't know my Hockey I guess.

I know i'm in a lot of leagues but I really can keep up.

Do what you have to do.No hard feelings.
