Blues will not return
« on: March 16, 2022, 12:04:52 AM »
I joined the league because I like the differences in this league from the other hockey league I was in.  Now it seems so of the interesting parts of the league are being stripped out and it is becoming just another league.

I acknowledge that I voted to allow this to happen, I just didn't realize it would go this far.  I'm disappointed, but this is what I voted for, so it's partly on me.  I guess I should have figured out what the changes were going to be first.

Regardless, if these changes are going to be enacted, I will be leaving at the end of the season.

This is not a complaint, I just wanted to be clear that it wasn't my intention to be a fly by night GM.  I was actually excited about what I was building.

thanks for letting us know. which part of the changes are you not agreeing with? its still early so we can still talk about alternatives that would still allow a compromise with the old and the new.

Here is are the changes that I am not in favor of:
  • The complete change in the way the minors will be handled.
  • Elimination of 2 way contracts
  • Elimination of waivers -- you reference that you might keep them, but with the new rules for the minors, I am not sure there would be a need for them.

Imo, these changes basically make turn this league into DNHL.  I like DNHL just fine, but I am already in it.  When I play in multiple leagues, I am generally looking for a different flavor in each league. I liked some of the details in this league that made it more realistic.

Ill have to look at it. because no one wants to do the work to maintain those rules, which is all manual, we will be limited by what fantrax will do but I need to look deeper into waivers and if it will handle using waivers to send players to the minors that should satisfy you on the 3 things.

This was what we tried to do with this league. Make it the most realistic as possible.

It?s just too much work to keep it running the way it is setup.  I was involved in building and help run this league in the beginning 6+ years.  It?s a lot of work. Jmtrops will need at least 2 others helpers to make it work. I appreciate what he and others have done.

Too bad most of the people here didn?t get to experience how the league was in the beginning.

thanks tony, I think most of us understand the amount of work it takes. The goal is to let the league survive without needing a lot of manual work to keep it going. I only want to change the rules only to make it work easier so if any of you are Fantrax experts and can tell me if we can make the waivers and FA work close to what we have now pm me.

TONY! The glory days of BNHL were the :soapbox: but unfortunately not something many of us are able to keep up with anymore :(

Sorry guys that the league has become as it has. I started this league a long long time ago and it is my little baby but unfortunately I was unable to look after it anymore. I thank everyone who has tended to it over the years. I am in favour with whatever anyone in charge or wants to be charge has to do to keep it alive but definitely hurts when my unique rule set and realism is lost.

Here is my story if you want to hear it haha. I started this league back in 2011 (almost 11 years ago!). I was a university student so obviously I wanted to keep my mind off of school work as much as possible. During those first 5 years, the league grew and developed into one of the top leagues on the site with such in depth knowledge of the owners and commitment (we rarely had turn off, like 1 or 2 teams a season). We had things like record books, statistics, weekly power rankings, a betting system, and many other things. Since my university days, I have now been a high school teacher for about 7 years and thus my amount time to the league has dramatically decreased. Add into that a few moves and now 3 kids, my time on the league and the website as a whole is nearly non-existant. BNHL was an amazing experience in my life to see something I developed and turn into something where many people enjoyed coming and chatting and competing. Thanks for all the memories within BNHL and maybe catch you all in a bar somewhere for a drink one day.

This isn't a goodbye from me but rather an official goodbye to the baby I created as it evolves into something else haha. Do what you need to keep it running the best you can as I know the time and commitment that goes into running a league of this depth and capacity.

I miss the original Backyard, I absolutely loved the early days when we had such low turnover and tons of super knowledgeable competitive GMs. Those first few years there was so much parity and then Tony started winning lol
