Title: Type A and B Compensation Rules
Post by: rcankosy on February 22, 2014, 11:04:00 AM
I know it might sound like sour grapes due to Encarnacion's designation, but it does not seem right that contract extensions are based on multiple season's stats, while compensation rules are based solely on the prior year's stats.

Perhaps, someone like Colby or Ben could explain the reasoning behind that rule.

We made our own rules for contracts, and other than the debate on the value of pitchers I think those rules are pretty fair.

The compensation rules are directly from MLB, if I recall correctly.

My only gripe about compensation rules are for RP's.  I think they are valued way too high for compensation.  Its almost a great strategy to not resign a top reliever just to get extra first round picks.

A LOT of rules currently on the books need to be updated. With the off-season is pretty much behind us I hope we have time to get to it

Compensation picks are based on actual MLB rules which only look at the latest season I believe.
