Title: Rangers/Blues Trade
Post by: SlackJack on June 25, 2015, 08:51:04 PM
Bo was looking for a winger so when I inquired about Scheifele he asked for Maroon. Maroon showed what he's worth in Anaheim playing up with the big boys. Scheifele has talent at Center.

Mark Scheifele, $1.4m (2015-16)

For

Patrick Maroon, $0.9m (2015-16)
Matej Stransky, N/C (0 games)

Thanks for the deal Bo!

I may be the only one, but I dont like this deal either. Maroon is years older, and doesn't have near the ceiling that Scheifele does. Im not sure if it deserves a veto or not, but this is a HUGE win for the Blues. Will have to see what NY has to say about this.

Typically it is more appropriate to withhold comments until both parties have had their say.

I know Scheifele.oozes potential but I do like the trade I was looking for a winger and maroon was a good fit for the price. Sounds like we will re work the deal a little tho

Already re-worked to include Stransky.

I'm not a fan of the trade, because I feel that Scheifele has a lot more to offer then Maroon, but Maroon does see time on the top line, and he has proven that he will show up to big games. Stransky is a nice sweetner to help offset the lose of Scheifele. So  :iatp:

 :veto:

1. Scheifele is 22, Maroon is 27
2. Maroon only had 34 points in 71 games this year getting top line mins
3. Scheifele had 49 points in 82 games played
4. Stransky has less value than a 5th round pick in my opinion

Sorry, I just don't see how this deal adds up.  Slack, I'm sorry I posted before Bo had a chance to approve.  I didn't know that was frowned upon. Scheifele just has way too much talent for a role player and a below average spec.

I'm going to step in and say veto as well. Most likely Anaheim has someone else for top line minutes next season (Hagelin maybe) and Maroon goes back to 3rd-4th line and doesn't score even close to the same number of points.
Scheifele had more points last season, has a higher ceiling and is in a better situation.
Stransky is a hit or miss prospect, had a decent (but not great junior career) and an average AHL career so far so really doesn't add the value to make up the difference.

I'm surprised at the lack of love for Maroon. His playoff numbers were excellent and personally I have him pegged to continue to play alongside Getzlaf and Perry.

I wish there was a little more leeway for GM's to manage as they see fit but I see which way the wind is blowing and respect the general opinion. Go ahead and kill this thread while New York and I revamp the deal.  :toth:

Just came across this..... posting just for fun:

If you own Carl Hagelin and can trade him, please do so. Lots of hype here, a lot of people expect great things from him. Some even say he'll play with Getzlaf and Perry. And he'll flourish there, right? Well let's ask Nash and Stepan. Hagelin is all speed and no finish. And for whatever reason, he can't produce on the power play either. If I was offered an over/under of 43 points next season, I'd put $100 on the under.

Trust me, by no means am I trying to start something.  I just don't think you understand my thinking behind my veto.

I actually think Maroon will get another shot with Getzlaf and Perry, but he barely produced 0.5 points/game last year with those guys and was a minus 5.

Scheifele was a top 3-5 spec in the game 2-3 years ago.  He has all the talent in the world, and is almost a full 5 years younger than Maroon.

I don't dislike Maroon, I just don't think he is half the value of what Scheifele is.

Not arguing. Close the thread, we'll re-work again.
